(Photo by: David Cooper/Toronto Star) Welcome back to the Weekend Update. This is usually presented by Ryan Shannon, but due to unfortunate circumstances, it appears that I will be covering for him. In this weekly article will be updated Western Conference Standings, videos from around the NHL and hockey world and let's the good people of Nashville know when and what channel they can watch hockey games.  Let's take a look at the Western Conference standings as follows: # Team GP PTS 1. Chicago Blackhawks 25 45 2. Anaheim Ducks 23 37 3. Vancouver Canucks 23 28 4. Los Angeles Kings 23 28 5. St. Louis Blues 24 28 6. Detroit Red Wings 25 28 7. San Jose Sharks 23 27 8. Phoenix Coyotes 25 27 9. Minnesota Wild 23 26 10. Dallas Stars 24 26 11. Nashville Predators 25 26 12. Calgary Flames 23 22 13. Colorado Avalanche 23 22 14. Columbus Blue Jackets 25 22 15. Edmonton Oilers 24 21 What jumps out to me the most is the Edmonton Oilers all the way at the bottom of the standings. Many thought they could make the playoffs this season as an 8th seed with the young scoring talent added with a solid defense, but doesn't appear to be the case. The West is tight as can be. Only two points separate the third spot from the eleventh. Teams can not afford to go on a losing streak in the West, especially with the the shortened season. It looks like the Chicago Blackhawks are going to runaway with the conference, and possibly the President's Trophy, this season. So far the Blackhawks have lost only one game in regulation by losing to the Colorado Avalanche this past week, snapping their point streak at 24. Now to the Eastern Conference we go... # Team GP PTS 1. Montreal Canadiens 25 36 2. Pittsburgh Penguins 25 34 3. Carolina Hurricanes 24 29 4. Boston Bruins 22 35 5. Toronto Maple Leafs 26 31 6. Ottawa Senators 25 30 7. New York Rangers 24 28 8. New Jersey Devils 25 27 9. Winnipeg Jets 24 25 10. New York Islanders 25 25 11. Philadelphia Flyers 26 23 12. Washington Capitals 24 21 13. Tampa Bay Lightning 25 21 14. Buffalo Sabres 25 21 15. Florida Panthers 25 20 The Philadelphia Flyers are in trouble, finding themselves in eleventh place, four points out of playoff position. The Flyers seem not have the same chemistry and sync to their game. One night, they will outscore an opponent by a huge margin, then the next night be shutout. It is a tale of two teams in Philadelphia. Could this be the first year in almost forever the Toronto Maple Leafs make the playoffs? And without Brian Burke? Huh, not surprised. The other Ontario team, the Ottawa Senators, seem to be chugging along with their star defenseman Erik Karlsson. In the province next to them, the Montreal Canadiens are on top of the conference. Who saw that coming? All they needed to do was put the pieces together. The Habs have a good hockey team anchored by Carey Price. ------ Lets start the video portion off with a little skill compilation video of hockey players from the juniors and NHL. This video is starting to resurface for quite good reason. This will give fans a sense of respect for how good some of these players are. Saturday night, Oliver Ekman-Larsson was awarded with a sick assist to give his team a 1-0 lead late in the fist period. OEL spins around a defenseman after a line change and sets up a goal. Former Predator Dan Ellis makes a huge save on Tom Kostopoulos in game between the Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils. Ellis was able to sprawl out and get his glove in front of the puck. In the rare goals section, David Legwand throws the puck on net from the red line making a simple dump in. The puck hops and goes under the glove of Devan Dubnyk late in the first period, ending his night. Prior to a game in Philadelphia, the Pittsburgh Penguins decided to have some fun at the Wells Fargo Center with the 76'ers court still out. Defenseman Robert Bortuzzo makes an alley-oop dunk that left all his teammates out of their seats going nuts. Let's end the video portion with a fight. On March 6, the Toronto Maple Leafs faced off against the Ottawa Senators in the battle of Ontario. Just 26 seconds in, Frazer McLaren and David Dziurzynski dropped the gloves. After a few punches were thrown, McLaren connected with Dziurzynski's face and knocked him out cold.  Here is the games those in Middle Tennessee can watch...
