The Penguins didn’t take long to shake off the embarrassing effort against the Sabres on Sunday. Instead, they used their lackluster performance as motivation to dominate the Eastern Conference-leading New York Rangers last night.
This could easily be viewed as one of the best games this season given the competition. And even moreso considering that Marc-Andre Fleury shutout the Rangers to tie Tom Barasso as the Pens’ all-time shutouts leader (22) in the big 2-0 win.
The Pens came out of the gate on a mission and really didn’t let up the entire game. Brooks Orpik was out so Benny Lovejoy rejoined the squad and Brad Thiessen was called up from WBS since Brent Johnson was “sick” (sick of being lousy this year). But MAF certainly wouldn’t need a back up on this day.
The first period ended with a 0-0 score but the Pens were clearly dominating. Shots were 11-6 after the first frame and it seemed like the Pens were in the Rangers’ zone constantly. If it wasn’t for Lundqvist being Lundq...
