In an effort to lighten the mood during the lockout, The New York Rangers Blog will be writing faux recaps for every Rangers game missed due to the work stoppage. Enjoy. Cedar Park, TX - With Hurricane Sandy making tonight's New York Rangers home opener against the Dallas Stars game unplayable, the NHL decided to let the outcome of the two teams' AHL affiliates decide the winner of the game. Because the Whale's home arena, the XL Center in Hartford, was also negatively affected by the megastorm, the NHL forced Connecticut to travel to Cedar Park, Texas to take on the Texas Stars. However, the last minute travel did not deter the Whale as they defeated the Stars 5-2. "Most teams would have folded under these circumstances, but our team seemed buoyed," Whale coach Ken Gernander said. "I'm very proud of the guys tonight." The Whale received a huge lift from a current Rangers player, as the Blueshirts sent Chris Kreider, who did not have to clear waivers, down to the Whale for the game. And he did not disappoint, as Kreider scored all five goals for the Whale. At one point the Rangers rookie phenom decided to play blindfolded to level the playing field. "It didn't seem fair that I was able to play against such inferior opposition at full strength," Kreider explained. "I figured playing blind would at least give them somewhat of a chance to make it close." But it didn't, as Kreider scored two of his AHL record five goals blind folded. "Embarassing," Texas Stars GM Scott White said after the game. "We're actually thinking about folding after this game. Not that anyone would notice. I mean, two professional hockey teams in Texas? Bettman strikes again." Michael Del Zotto, who was demoted to the Whale earlier in the week, was a -3 as his failure to keep three pucks in the Whale zone during power plays led to three Stars short handed goals. "I'm hearing the Rangers ECHL team in Greenville is looking for a power play point man, Del Zotto might fit in well," Rangers assistant GM Jim Schoenfeld noted after the game. Cam Talbot made 21 saves on 22 shots for the win, while Kyle Jean assisted on each of Kreider's goals. With the CT Whale win the Rangers are now 6-2-1 on the season.
