Connecticut Whale 3, Albany Devils 2 By Brian Ring Hartford, CT, February 3, 2012 - The Connecticut Whale defeated the Albany Devils, 3-2, Friday night at the XL Center in Hartford to snap an eleven-game winless streak. Kris Newbury, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Wojtek Wolski all scored for the Whale, while Mats Zuccarello and Brendan Bell added two assists apiece. “It’s a good feeling in here right now, the guys are happy,” said Newbury. “The good news is we get to get right back at it and try to have a good weekend.” Albany staked themselves to an early 1-0 lead, as Eric Gelinas’ shot from the right point was ripped past Whale goaltender Chad Johnson (20 saves) just 1:39 into the opening period. Stephane Veilleux and Darcy Zajac each assisted on the goal. The Whale would strike back just over a minute later, as Newbury tied the game in his return to the lineup after missing the last two games due to injury. The puck hit off the end boards to the left of Albany goaltender Keith K...

Tortorella Cutting Brad Richards Too Much Slack

I feel like the span between these posts about Brad Richards has become smaller and smaller as the season passes by, which, for obvious reasons, is not a good thing for the Rangers' big free agent splash this past summer. Richards was brought here for several reasons, but the most prevalent included his playmaking abilities, his presence at the point on the powerplay and...

Rangers acquire Casey Wellman from Wild for Erik Christensen and 7th round pick

It looks like the Rangers have at least temporarily solved their surplus forward problem, as they have dealt Erik Christensen and a 7th round pick in 2012 to the Wild for Casey Wellman. Christensen had been a spare part for the Rangers for a long time, and hadn’t played in a NHL game since December 17. The enigmatic and inconsistent center had once shown some chemsitry with Marian...

The Rangers announced that they have traded Erik Christensen and a conditional seventh round pick to the Wild for forward Casey Wellman. Wellman, 24, was assigned to the Connecticut Whale. More to come.

Not the Right Fit

This is exactly what could be said of former New York Rangers’ forward Erik Christensen. There is no doubt that Christensen had a lot of offensive potential. He is a great passer, solid in the shootout and has good vision. With that said, Christensen never used the above-mentioned talents on a consistent basis. When he was not hurt, Christensen often found himself in head coach...

Devils rookie D Larsson injures back vs. Canadiens

New Jersey Devils rookie defenseman Adam Larsson exited Thursday's game versus the Montreal Canadiens with a bruised lower back. The fourth overall pick of the draft, Larsson was blasted by Montreal blue-liner P.K. Subban along the wall near the Canadiens's bench. "I thought it was a clean hit," New Jersey coach Peter DeBoer said. It was not immediately known...

Smyth to waive no-trade for Rangers?

It looks like New York Rangers general manager Glen Sather is trying to position the team for a serious run at a Stanley Cup Championship. The Rangers currently hold the number one seed in the Eastern Conference but do have some holes. They’ve got a very weak power play, an offense that could use a spark and another defenseman. If Sather has his wish he’ll be reunited with...

Rangers/Flyers Recap

After a couple of days off, the Rangers took to the ice at the Garden for a pre-Superbowl matinee and threw the Flyers a well deserved 5-2 beating.  This was a tremendous game with a ton of talking points for analysis, but I’ll try to be brief.  Onto the bullets… Overall, the Rangers played an incredibly solid game today.  They minimized mistakes, took advantage of some soft...
