As reported Monday at The Wild State of Hockey, the Wild placed two-time Stanley Cup Champion winger Petr Sykora on a pro tryout. Wasting little to no time, GM Chuck Fletcher signed Sykora to a one-year deal worth $1.6 million Thursday morning. Sykora brings pure goal scoring talent to the offense deprived Wild, something Fletcher has said repeatedly he wanted to try and add to the Wild before the season started. Sykora has scored at least 20 goals per season nine times in his 14 year NHL career and has proven to be an effective offensive threat at every level he has ever played at. With the signing of Sykora, the Wild are now left with only $796,473 of salary cap room for the 2009-2010 season and are also one player over the 23 NHL player roster limit. This means it is more likely that Colton Gillies might start the season down in Houston.
