ST. PAUL, Minn. -- With the Chicago Blackhawks off to the best start in their long franchise history, it was likely to take an extra effort to beat them. On Wednesday, the Minnesota Wild logged that extra effort, throughout overtime and a shootout and handed the Blackhawks their first loss. Zach Parise and Matt Cullen scored in the shootout as the Wild won, 3-2. Cullen also scored in regulation for Minnesota (4-2-1), which was dominated late in the game, but held on to get two points. "It felt like we were chasing the puck a lot tonight, but you've got to win games like that," Parise said. "It's good to give them their first loss." Andrew Shaw and Jonathan Toews got goals for the Blackhawks, who fell to 6-0-1. They got a shootout goal from Toews but lost when Patrick Sharp's shootout attempt hit the crossbar. "You go to a shootout and anything can happen, but I thought we had the play the last part of the game, so there are some good thin...

ST. PAUL, Minn. Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo had seen his top line of Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu and Dany Heatley score 10 of the team's 13 goals through the first five games and pleaded for more support after Minnesota lost in overtime at St. Louis on Sunday.
Returning home, the Wild got the secondary scoring it needed and everyone could appreciate who supplied the help.
ST. PAUL, Minn. Ever since star forward Zach Parise signed his mega-contract last summer with the Minnesota Wild, coach Mike Yeo had dreamed of putting Parise with center Mikko Koivu and wing Dany Heatley.
Yeo felt the three could complement each other well and become the top scoring line Minnesota has sought for years, while also being responsible defensively. Yeo had time to change...
Josh Harding's story has been pretty miraculous. The goaltender recently picked up a shutout for the Minnesota Wild in his first game back after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Unfortunately, Harding's start against the Chicago Blackhawks was a bumpy one, earning Harding some time on the bench not even seven minutes into the first period.
As Niklas Backstrom took...
The Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday traded forward Peter LeBlanc to the Washington Capitals in exhange for future considerations. In addition, the Blackhawks' AHL affiliant, the Rockford IceHogs, acquired Mathieu Beaudoin from the Hershey Bears in exchange for future considerations. Beaudoin, 28, appeared in 32 games this season Hershey, scoring three goals and adding seven...
ST. PAUL, Minn. When the Minnesota Wild went on their summer shopping spree to land big-name free agents Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, fans of the team envisioned long playoff runs, Stanley Cups and parades down the streets of St. Paul.
All of the hype surrounding Parise and Suter overshadowed one important fact. The first step for Minnesota is getting back into the playoffs, after...
Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period and the Minnesota Wild snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 on Tuesday night.
With the Wild seemingly on their heels after giving up a two-goal lead, Bouchard took a pass from Torrey Mitchell near the blue line, zoomed past two Columbus defenders and beat goalie Steve Mason...

Headline: Heated and Hated Rivalry Continues – Canucks Host Blackhawks Friday Night
One of the best rivalry’s in the NHL writes another chapter Friday night when the Chicago Blackhawks, fresh of their first loss of the season (albeit a shootout loss) pays visit to the Vancouver Canucks who climbed over .500 with a 3-0 win over Colorado on Wednesday night...
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild's top line has been as dominant as any in the NHL early in this shortened season, but the team has lacked secondary offense. That is, until Pierre-Marc Bouchard somehow ended up on the fourth line. Playing on a juggled offensive unit, Bouchard scored his 100th career goal late in the third period Tuesday, and it lifted the Wild to a 3-2...
The WCHA was well represented tonight. Here is the video of the shootout. Shooting is former Fighting Sioux forwards Zach Parise and Jonathan Toews. Also, Mikko Koivu, Patrick. Kane, former Saint Cloud State Husky Matt Cullen and Patrick Sharp shootout attempts.
Blackhawks forward Jonathan Toews has a 50 percent success rate in the shootouts. That's incredible in my opinion.
Last summer the Minnesota Wild made a huge splash by signing Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. The duo was considered the most coveted set of free agents available and decided to ink identical deals in the Twin Cities after nearly every team in the league tried to make a pitch for them. So far the change has paid quick dividends; the two have combined for 13 points in the first six games...
Some players describe it as pins and needles, or the sensation of electricity running through the body when they think about that moment when they are totally amped. It can sometimes feel as though time slows down, or how you become sensitive to the smallest things. Your body becomes so charged that you feel like you could run through a wall and not even feel it. I have a feeling...
