On July 1, Tampa Bay Lightning forward Simon Gagne’s five-year, $26 million contract will expire, making him a free agent. Erik Erlendsson, Lightning beat writer for the Tampa Tribune, noted on his Twitter account that the chances of Gagne being resigned by the Lightning are slim.
According to Ryan Bright of Philadelphia Sports Daily, there is a possibility that the Flyers could have interest in bringing Gagne back to the place where he played for the first ten years of his career, but that the signing price would have to be considerably lower.
Bright writes:
However, in going anywhere, Gagne — who has averaged just 56 games a year in the past four seasons, labeled concussion prone and entering the latter part of his 11-year career — will have to take a pay cut. That little fact will have teams around the league, including the Flyers, wondering just how much the clutch performer will go for on the market.
