The Wings got their first win of the shortened season Monday night beating the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 in the shootout from Nationwide Arena. Detroit got things going as Brian Lashoff got his first of the season and career putting Detroit up 1-0 in the second. Just about midway through the period, Ian White put the Wings up 2-0 before Cam Atkinson got the Jackets on the board as the second period ended with Detroit up 2-1. In the third Columbus got two early goals to start the period from James Wisniewski at the 3:24 mark and Vinny Prospel at the 8:43 mark giving the Jackets a 3-2 lead. However as the period approached the late stages Pavel Datsyuk tied things up by way of Niklas Kronwall and Henrik Zetterberg. After a scoreless overtime the two teams headed to a shootout. In that shootout period Red Wings forward Damien Brunner dazzled the Nationwide crowd with a deke very reminiscent of Pavel Datsyuk to give the Wings the victory.
