The Detroit Red Wings secured a new backup goaltender Wednesday, signing journeyman netminder Ty Conklin to a one-year deal worth $750,000.The 35-year-old spent last season with the St. Louis Blues, going 8-8-4 with a 3.22 goals-against average and two shutouts. Conklin enjoyed a stint with the Red Wings in 2008-09, going 25-11-0 with a 2.51 GAA and a career-best six shutouts.Conklin takes over as the primary backup to starter Jimmy Howard after Chris Osgood announced his retirement Tuesday.
