For the team’s ninth overall 2014 NHL Draft selection, the Winnipeg Jets found a first round pick in Nikolaj Ehlers. The 18-year-old was the first player from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to be selected in the 2014 draft.
In his 63 games with the Halifax Mooseheads this last season, Ehlers was fourth in the league, scoring 49 goals and a total of 104 points. He was also named rookie of the year and offensive rookie of the year.
Ehlers may not have tremendous size or strength, but he certainly has the potential skill and speed necessary to make the NHL. Ehlers finished the season ranked as the number 11 prospect overall by the ISS.
The offensive player continues to demonstrate his talent and ability seen in last season, making himself one of the Jets’ top choices.
