There's been so much focus on the Philadelphia Flyers' side of the Winter Classic alumni game — Eric Lindros and a potential Legion of Doom reunion, the possibility of Bobby Clarke and other Bullies in the game — that the New York Rangers' roster has been somewhat overshadowed.
One anticipates that players like Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Mike Richter and Adam Graves will skate for the Blueshirts. But the recent speculation had centered on a bigger name: Wayne Gretzky, who finished his career with the Rangers and had previously skated in an outdoor exhibition game at the first Heritage Classic.
The logic: That the Winter Classic would be a prime opportunity for the NHL and Gretzky to make amends after "shoddy" treatment of The Great One when his tenure with the Phoenix Coyotes ended.
Alas, there will be no Wayne Gretzky skating with Mess and taking faceoffs against Lindros at Citizens Bank Park. From Pierre LeBrun of ESPN:
The Great One told ESPN.com via text t...

Those hoping for a glimpse of Wayne Gretzky back on the ice will have to keep hoping, unfortunately. The Great One has declined to participate in the 2012 Winter Classic alumni game, according to ESPN. Gretzky texted that he will "be with his family for the holidays," continuing, "[fans] don't need to see a 50-year-old slow guy out there!" Judging by the love...
It looks like the New York Rangers will have to head to the NHL Winter Classic Alumni Game without the greatest player in National Hockey League History. Wayne Gretzky has told ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun in a text message that he doesn’t think he will be at the game and in a Blueshirt. “No, I’ll be [...]
When it comes to the New York Rangers alumni game there are the expected
inclusions of Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Mike Richter and Adam Grave. Beyond
that the biggest hope for some has been that Wayne Gretzky would lace them up
in Philadelphia, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
According to Pierre LeBrun at ESPN.com

Eric Lindros confirmed on Wednesday that he will be playing hockey in the City of Brotherly Love - well, the Winter Classic Alumni Game, that is.
The former Philadelphia Flyers captain told 590 AM radio in Toronto that he will participate in a reunion of the Legion of Doom line with John LeClair and Mikael Renberg during the Alumni Game at Citizens Bank Park on Dec. 31.
While the Philadelphia Flyers stock up on names like Eric Lindros, John LeClair, Bobby Clarke and Reggie Leach only time will tell what the New York Rangers have in store for their fans when it comes to the Alumni Game during the Winter Classic. Of course you will see Mark Messier, Adam Graves, Brian Leetch [...]
… of course with the likes of Adam Graves, Wayne Gretzky , Tony Amonte, Ron Duguay, Rod Gilbert, and others waiting on the bench for their turn. Who would you pick for your starters and/or lines for the New York Rangers Alumni Team? Send it in to us via our contact form or write us [...]
We all know Bobby Clarke and Eric Lindros had their differences. It is no secret.
A major component of the problems between Clarke and Lindros were because of Lindros' family. They played a huge role in his career decisions.
Back in 2007 after Lindros announced his retirement, Clarke spoke to Hockey Night In Canada Radio.
"He was an easy guy to have around, didn't...
Anybody know is Lex Luthor can still skate? The Legion of Doom is back, as Eric Lindros has announced that he is hoping to reunite with linemates John LeClair and Mikael Renberg during the alumni game at this season's Winter Classic in Philadelphia. The line earned its famous nickname from the three players' physical play and their ability to score goals. But this time, they...
One of the more popular--not to mention effective--lines in Philadelphia Flyers history will be reunited this winter, when John LeClair, Mikael Renberg and Eric Lindros lace up their skates together at the Flyers-Rangers Alumni game on December 31st. Lindros confirmed the "Legion of Doom" line will skate again this morning in an interview with 590 AM in Toronto.

Last week, former Philadelphia Flyers star and lightning rod of controversy Eric Lindros confirmed that the team had reached out to him regarding a role at the 2012 NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park. (Full marks to Justin Johnson of The Hockey Writers for breaking that story.)
Thoughts immediate raced...
We took to Twitter once again to ask a very important question to New York Rangers fans, who should play for the Blueshirts at the Alumni Game against the Philadelphia Flyers? Of course, we asked them to name players besides Mark Messier, Brian Leetch, Adam Graves, Wayne Gretzky and Mike Richter who are all but [...]
On Wednesday, Eric Lindros formally declared that he'll appear in the Philadelphia Flyers' 2012 Winter Classic alumni game against the New York Rangers on Dec. 31, expecting to reform the fabled Legion of Doom line with John LeClair and Mikael Renberg.
Lindros cautioned that no one had yet spoken to Renberg about the reunion; but someone has, in fact, spoken on Renberg'...
