The New York Rangers have announced that forward Wojtek Wolski (groin) will undergo sports hernia surgery and will miss four weeks, per Andrew Gross. Wolski has already missed six games due to injury this season, as his groin was a repeating issue that caused him some trouble even while in the lineup.

Wolski has recorded two assists in six games so far this year, and will be a piece in the lineup that the Rangers will miss. I think Wolski's absence has been overshadowed by the return of Sean Avery, but let's face it, Wolski contributes more offensively to the team than Avery does. In fact, I personally believe that Wolski is more valuable to the club than Erik Christensen and looked pretty good playing with Marian Gaborik in the early stages of the season.

The Rangers have not hinted that they will be making any call-ups to replace Wolski, and with a four-game winning streak going, why should they? Like they always say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This likely means that Sean Avery will remain with the club for at least the next four weeks, which I'm sure is something that gave him some hope since he will now have ample time to prove he deserves to stay. Avery's main competition right now are his linemates, Christensen and Deveaux, but that is a discussion for another time.
