Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas is considering sitting out the 2012-13 season, ESPNBoston reported late Thursday, citing a source close to the player. The veteran netminder has pondered taking the shocking sabbatical "on more than one occasion" during the 2011-12 campaign, the report claimed. He reportedly felt stressed after a season that notably saw him receive a wide fan backlash for his failure to travel to the White House following the team's Stanley Cup success last year. Thomas is heading into the final year of his four-year, $20 million contract and has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate, with Tuukka Rask waiting in the wings to replace him in Boston. The 38-year-old Thomas moved his family to Colorado last fall and would apparently base himself there during the 2012-13 season, the source said, should he opt for the year off. He apparently would use the time to train for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
