It’d be tough to say that the defending Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings are still the NHL’s best team. On Sunday, the Chicago Blackhawks defeated them for the second time this season (2-0). Just like they did on January 19th, the Blackhawks dominated most of the game against the Kings on national television, looking like the all-around better team with the nation’s eyes upon them. But that would all be a small side note if it weren’t for one main factor … Chicago is undefeated. That’s right, un-de-feat-ed. And that’s not something you can say very often. Back in 2006, the Anaheim Ducks didn’t lose a game in regulation (different than winning every game) through their first 16 matchups, an NHL record. The Blackhawks are now in 2nd place on that all-time list, not having lost through their first 15 games (12-0-3) with a chance to tie the Ducks’ record on Tuesday night against the very capable Vancouver Canucks. But whether Chicago ties the record, edges it out, blows it away, o...

Brent Seabrook takes a slapshot right to the pills

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook is a shot blocking specialist and is always among the league leaders.  Unfortunately for him, when he went out to block Drew Doughty’s shot during their game against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday, he took that shot right to nuts.  Don’t let the Doc Emerick and Eddie Olczyk fool you, they kept saying midsection, but they were merely...

Brent Seabrook takes shot to the groin

Proving that he will do anything to help the Chicago Blackhawks win Brent Seabrook took one in the groin on Sunday. Seebrook was able to return to the game.

Sabres Continue to Leave Points on the Table

The Buffalo Sabres fell 4-3 to Pittsburgh yesterday afternoon in what was yet another failed attempt for Lindy Ruff’s club to win back to back home games for the first time this season.  The loss was especially disconcerting because Steve Ott’s third period tally had completed a comeback from a 2-0 deficit and had actually given Buffalo a 3-2 lead in the final frame. Hodgson’s...

Ryan Miller makes amazing glove save

During the celebration of Hockey Day In America, it’s only fitting that the Buffalo Sabres American goalie Ryan Miller delivered this absolute gem.  Tied 3-3 late in the 3rd period, Pittsburgh Penguins forward James Neal somehow got wide open in the Sabres zone.  Sidney Crosby hit Neal with a perfect pass, and Ryan Miller miraculously came across the crease and snagged it out...

Canucks vs. Chicago Blackhawks betting odds and handicapping preview

For the NHL Gamblers! Headline: Blackhawks Take Aim At History – Host Canucks Tuesday Night The hated Chicago Blackhawks could make a little history Tuesday night when they gun for their 16th straight game in which they have generated at least a point to start the season. Standing in their way from tying the 2006-2007 Anaheim Ducks (who went on to win the Cup that year) is the...

GARTH: Where'd He Grigo?

Lindy Ruff has decided to park Mikhail Grigorenko for tonight's game. Why? I don't know. Grigo hasn't played since the 4-2 Sabres win over the Bruins on Friday night. I can understand the rationale of sitting the 18 year old against the Penguins due to his relative inexperience against two of the top centres in the NHL in Crosby and Malkin. However, I'm shaking...

Gameday: Sabres Host Penguins On Hockey Day In America

After a hard fought, comeback win against the Boston Bruins on Friday night, the Buffalo Sabres have a little more confidence brewing than they did after the last two times the teams met. In order to keep the confidence growing, the Sabres have to pass a big test this afternoon when they face the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins in a nationally televised game (NBC) on Hockey Day In America...

Canucks Forward Jannik Hansen Faces Hearing for High Hit on Chicago’s Marian Hossa (Video)

The Chicago Blackhawks won (again) Tuesday night, this time against the Vancouver Canucks, but it wasn’t without seeing one of their best players go down after a scary hit (again). Vancouver forward Jannik Hansen delivered a high elbow to Chicago’s Marian Hossa in the third period of the Blackhawks’ 4-3 win Tuesday, and it will reportedly earn Hansen a hearing with the NHL...

Blackhawks Shoot for Record Start vs. Canucks

Brent Seabrook is out. Corey Crawford is out. That means the Blackhawks will need big contributions from Michal Rozsival and Ray Emery in a match-up that can put this team in the record book. All Chicago needs is one point to tie a league record 16 game point streak set by the Anaheim Ducks in 2006-2007. While the thought of tying that record is an entertaining idea, I think most...

Jannik Hansen hit to the head of Marian Hossa

During last night's game, Vancouver Canuck forward Jannik Hansen hit Chicago Blackhawk forward Marian Hossa's in the head  with this dirty hit. This play needs to be reviewed by the department of players safety. There is no doubt that this hit and should have been more than a two minute minor penalty, in my opinion. Rule 48 - Illegal Check to the Head 48.1 Illegal...

Was Jannik Hansen's hit on Marian Hossa intentional?

The Chicago Blackhawks - Vancouver Canucks rivalry intensified on Feb. 19th thanks to a controversial hit from Jannik Hansen to the back of Marian Hossa' head. The play, seen below, featured both men trying to grab a puck out of the air, only to have Hansen's elbow collide violently into Hossa's head. Was the elbow from Hansen intentional? Should the NHL hand out...

Jannik Hansen/Marian Hossa Collision

Early twitter talk is some calling it a collision with both players reaching for the puck, others say hea dshot. Hansen received 2 for roughing.

Aleksander Barkov Displays Deking Skill in Impressive Shootout Goal

Bad news is coming for NHL goalies and his name is Aleksander Barkov. One of the top 2013 draft prospects showed just why he is so highly sought after with an impressive shootout goal Saturday night. The 17-year-old showcased his skill and control with the puck as he faked out the goalie with a move that Patrick Kane would be proud of. Check out the beauty below.
