Pittsburgh defenseman Deryk Engelland will miss three games after being suspended by the NHL for an illegal check to the head.
The league punished Engelland for hitting Chicago forward Marcus Kruger during Tuesday night's game. No penalty was assessed on the hit 8:55 into the game.

VIDEO: Deryk Engelland of Pittsburgh Penguins suspended for 3 games
You saw the tape from Tuesday’s game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Chicago Blackhawks. And, so has Brendan Shanahan.
Deryk Engelland of the Penguins lunged forward and sent Chicago defenceman Marcus Kruger into the board.
Shanahan immediately stated that the feet leaving the surface was how he sized up the suspension with his measuring stick. Towards the head, no less...

Deryk Engelland can expect a call from Shanny
This is why I like the NHL; a player dishes out what I would classify as a dirty bush league check on an opposing player. His teammate who happens to be trailing the play takes issue with the questionable hit and challenges the offending player to a fight.
In this case Blackhawks heavy weight John Scott, reacted appropriately to the questionable hit, came to his teammates...

Tuesday's Goats: Engelland Calls Shanahan, Fans Believe Anything They Hear
No. 1 Goat: Deryk Engelland, Pittsburgh Penguins
Engelland activated a beacon for the league's department of player safety after hitting Chicago's Marcus Kruger into the boards during the first period of play. The hit ended Kruger's night and caused an immediate retaliation from Blackhawks forward John Scott. While Scott was hit with a game misconduct, a fighting major, and...

The Case For Suspending Deryk Engelland
Just because we're a fan blog, doesn't mean we can't have differing opinions like human beings...
It's understandable why this post was made. Derek and/or Adam (no idea who wrote it) is a Penguins fan and, especially with the Pens defense suffering from every injury right now, it would hurt the Penguins if Engelland missed any time. It's also tough watching...

Deryk Engelland will probably be suspended because his borderline hit was on national tv.
Eddie Olsucks and Keith Jones got all jammed up about this hit. So was the panel of assholes from TSN:
Shut up Bob Mckenzie. Is Bob Mckenzie a league official? Didn't know he makes personal decisions now.
If this was just a run of the mill ROOT sports broadcast, does this even get attention?
We'll expect...

Engelland Earning Playing Time
Deryk Engelland dropped the gloves again Monday against Phoenix. He scored another highlight-reel knockout too. Both are becoming familiar occurrences for the Penguins defenseman. Engelland has 10 fighting majors so far this year, second in the NHL. He’s scored impressive wins over legit heavyweights Colton Orr and Jody Shelley.
But, truth be told, Engelland’s brought...

Pens Re-Sign Engelland
It certainly doesn’t count as a “big” move, but the Pens shored up their defensive depth by re-signing Deryk Engelland. He’s big (6’2”, 200), physical and isn’t afraid to drop the gloves. A career minor-leaguer, Engelland fared well enough in 9 games with the Pens this season to get another look. He had 11 points and 121 penalty minutes in 71 games with Wilkes-Barre...
