Over this past weekend the New Jersey Devils honored former defenseman Scott Niedermayer by hoisting his number 27 to the rafters of the Prudential Center. The ceremony was aired in it’s entirety locally but the NHL missed an opportunity to give Niedermayer and their sport some additional exposure by failing to carry the event on nation TV.

Former New Jersey Devils defenseman Scott Niedermayer had his No. 27 retired in an emotional ceremony Friday night.
Niedermayer, who played with the Devils from 1992-2004 before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks, won three Stanley Cups in New Jersey. He became just the third Devils player to have their number raised to the rafters, joining Scott Stevens and Ken Daneyko.
