Semyon Varlamov was supposed to be the man between the pipes for the Washington Capitals but injuries and inconsistency have left the door open for competition as the playoffs get underway.

Rookie goalie Simeon Varlamov is 20 years old and doesn't speak any English just Russian. I think the Washington Capitals are going to want to get him to English immersion classes very soon, because I could see this kid playing in the NHL for some time. It also doesn't look like he needs a razor very often. (watch the video here)

Like kids at Christmas, let's dream a little. What if Simeon Varlamov, this season or next, emerges as our stud showstopper, our game-changer between the pipes? I'm of the opinion that the Caps have never really had one. They've had two Vezina winners, but it doesn't seem to me that they've ever had the jaw-dropping talent that can backstop a talented club to a Cup.
