Given Darren Helm's murky status due to his "upper-body injury" (we should learn more about Helm when the Red Wings practice at noon), the Wings hedged their bets regarding their lack of depth up the middle via a simple pre-trade-deadline call-up--which doesn't count against the 4 post-deadline call-ups they're capped at making in non-roster emergency situations...
The Detroit Red Wings have assigned forwards Cory Emmerton, Riley Sheahan and Teemu Pulkkinen, and defenseman Adam Almquist to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.
The Red Wings, who made the moves on Thursday, return from the NHL's Olympic break with a game at Montreal on Wednesday.
Emmerton has appeared in 11 games for Detroit, notching two assists. Sheahan has three goals...

This is interesting, per the Red Wings' PR department. The Grand Rapids Griffins are holding a tripleheader this weekend and the Red Wings resume practicing at Joe Louis Arena today at 2 PM, and they'll resume their NHL season with games in Montreal on the 26th and in Ottawa on the 27th. Will some of these warm bodies be with them, or is this just maximizing-LTIR-spending...
Detroit Red Wings center Cory Emmerton cleared waivers today and was reassigned to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Emmerton has been out since Jan. 18 with an injured finger but is healthy now, which enabled the club to waive him.
He appeared in two games after being recalled from the Griffins on Jan. 16 to replace Joakim Andersson.
Emmerton, 25, initially was waived on Sept. 29 and...
from Chuck Pleiness of Red Wings Front,
The Wings have placed Cory Emmerton on waivers Saturday.
He has until noon Sunday to clear or be picked up by another team.
If he’s not picked up he’ll head back to Grand Rapids.
It’s the second time this season Emmerton has been placed on waivers.
“You know, everyone knows what’s going on here,” Emmerton said...
via YouTube Stephen Weiss buried the game-winning goal in overtime of the Red Wings-Hurricanes game Saturday in just his second game as a Wing. Cory Emmerton (25) celebrated the occasion by getting weird. Emmerton comes into view at 0:12 and starts gettin’ weird soon after. Uh, welcome to Detroit, Stephen Weiss (I guess?). DETROIT -- What a week its been for Cory Emmerton.
He was put on waivers by the Red Wings on Sunday. On Monday, he cleared waivers and was assigned to Grand Rapids, then a few hours later he was back on the Detroit roster.
On Wednesday night at Joe Louis Arena, he was centering the Wings' fourth line as they opened their season with a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
What a whirlwind this week has been for Cory Emmerton already.
The forward was put on waivers by the Red Wings Sunday. No team claimed him and so he thought he was headed to the minor leagues. But he wound up staying with the Red Wings when forward Patrick Eaves was placed on the long-term injured-list.
Tuesday morning Emmerton found himself centering Mikael Samuelsson and Drew...
Yesterday I listed the worst 20 players in 2011/12 by team and zone adjusted Corsi ratings. The worst player on the list is Cory Emmerton of the Detroit Red Wings. Emmerton was a rookie with the team who failed to adjust to a regular NHL role. He scored six goals and ten points in his 71 games played. This made him the lowest scoring regular on the Red Wings. Emmerton...
DETROIT-- Cory Emmerton showed what kind of player he can be in Saturday night's 8-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
Emmerton had two goals and an assist, one more point than he had in his previous 20 games combined.
While the Red Wings don't expect Emmerton to get three points every game, they do expect him to be a little more consistent. Like all the fourth-line players...
