The Detroit Red Wings have a ton of depth at the center position, and the emergence of some young players there pushed Cory Emmerton out of the team’s plans this past season. The restricted free agent apparently will try out his luck elsewhere in 2014-15.

DETROIT -- What a week its been for Cory Emmerton.
He was put on waivers by the Red Wings on Sunday. On Monday, he cleared waivers and was assigned to Grand Rapids, then a few hours later he was back on the Detroit roster.
On Wednesday night at Joe Louis Arena, he was centering the Wings' fourth line as they opened their season with a 2-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
DETROIT-- Cory Emmerton showed what kind of player he can be in Saturday night's 8-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
Emmerton had two goals and an assist, one more point than he had in his previous 20 games combined.
While the Red Wings don't expect Emmerton to get three points every game, they do expect him to be a little more consistent. Like all the fourth-line players...
