Finding a back-up goaltender
There have been a lot of things that have led to the Hurricanes collapse over the last month but one of the most popular explanations for it is Cam Ward's injury. Ever since Ward sprained his MCL, the Canes are 7-16-3 and their even strength save percentage has plummeted from an average .920 to .910. Bad goaltending can sink any team and the Hurricanes have experienced that first...
Hurricanes activate G Dan Ellis from IR
The Carolina Hurricanes have activated goalie Dan Ellis from injured reserve.
The team announced the move Monday, a few hours before its game at Montreal.
Ellis had been out since suffering a cut near his left knee in the final minute of a loss to New Jersey on March 21.
He was brought in during the offseason to back up Cam Ward, an All-Star who will be out at least two more weeks...

Rick Nash dangles Dan Ellis in shootout
It pays to be a big power forward sometimes. New York Rangers forward Rick Nash put his size to use against Carolina Hurricanes goalie Dan Ellis during the shootout. Ellis bit on the initial fake and Nash used his extra reach to get around Ellis and tuck the puck far side. The Rangers got a much-needed win against the Hurricanes on Monday night as they are trying to climb back...
Carolina Hurricanes forced to ride No. 3 goaltender
Well-traveled goaltender Dan Ellis will carry a big workload for the Carolina Hurricanes while starter Cam Ward recovers from his serious knee injury. That opportunity will last from six to eight weeks. But first things first: Ellis (3-2-0, 2.56 goals-against average, .923 save percentage) must recover from a nasty bout with the flu before he plays again. In the meantime, Justin Peters...
Ellis must step up in goalie Ward's absence
For a goalie of Cam Ward's stature, there have been some uncomfortable moments this season.
Mostly, they have come in terms of Ward's having to fight for his starts something the 29-year-old has not had to do since his rookie season of 2005-06, when he ultimately led the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup, winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in the process...

Lightning first in division after beating Hurricanes
The Lightning once again put on a show in the third period to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2. Marc-Andre Begeron got the Lightning on the board first when his spin around shot beat beat Carolina goalie Dan Ellis. Ellis was sharp for the majority of the game but Tampa Bay did what they do best this season and that’s score goals in the third period. The lightning added four goals...
Ellis shuts down Senators
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Goalie Dan Ellis has given the Carolina Hurricanes something to think about with their goalie rotation. Ellis, making his second start of the season, stopped 33 shots and Eric Staal's first-period goal held up as the Hurricanes defeated the Ottawa Senators 1-0 Friday night at PNC Arena. "We were able to get some good habits and that's something to...
The Checkers have no problem with Dan Ellis
The majority of my posts about the Checkers have been focused on their high-powered offense and whether or not it is sustainable in the long-run. This team's offense and scoring depth has played a large role in their hot start to the season, but something that might be getting overshadowed is the terrific play of goaltender Dan Ellis. After signing a tryout deal and beating out...
Steve Palumbo: Ducks Sign Swedish Goalie Victor Fasth; Dan Ellis Done in Anaheim?
The Anaheim Ducks may have unofficially ended their relationship with oft-injured back-up goalie Dan Ellis by inking Swedish netminder Viktor Fasth to a one-year, one-way deal worth $1 million.
Ellis is an unrestricted free agent and more than likely wasn't in the Ducks future plans. Ellis earned $1.5 million this past season, but only appeared in 10 games. He missed most...
Dan Ellis Returns to Old Stomping Grounds
Former Predators goaltender Dan Ellis will return to Bridgestone Arena Saturday night as a member of the Anaheim Ducks. (Sarah Fuqua)
Anaheim Ducks goaltender Dan Ellis is best known in Nashville for his three year stint as a Predator. In his three years, Ellis managed to lead the league in save percentage one time and managed to push an eventual Stanley Cup champion to the brink...
