Joey MacDonald turned aside 31 shots as the Detroit Red Wings edged the San Jose Sharks for their NHL-record 23rd consecutive home victory.
San Jose provided a stiff challenge for the Red Wings but couldn't hand the home side its first loss at Joe Louis Arena since Nov. 3 against Calgary. The loss dropped the Sharks to 1-3-1 on their season-high nine-game road trip.

Red Wings reassign MacDonald to Grand Rapids
The Detroit Red Wings have reassigned goalie Joey MacDonald to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.
MacDonald was Ty Conklin's backup for Detroit in its game at Columbus on Tuesday night - with usual starter Jimmy Howard excused from the team for the birth of his first child. MacDonald signed a two-year contract extension over the summer.
He hasn't played yet for Detroit...
