Coyotes release Smaby, keep Hodgman

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney on Saturday announced the team released defenseman Matt Smaby from his pro-tryout agreement. The 29-year-old Smaby appeared in five preseason games for the Coyotes and recorded a plus-two rating and seven penalty minutes. The Minneapolis native registered 0-6-6 and 106 PIM in 122 career NHL games. There are now 23 players remaining...
