First Justin Gatlin is busted and then Marion Jones, arguably the two biggest names in American sprinting. Terrible. Gatlin is forced to give up the most prized record in sprinting and banned from the sport for 8 years. Jones' entire career is now in doubt. Personally, I don't really blame athletes for having used performance enhancing drugs in the past. Like it or not, only up until recently all sports one way or another have secretly embraced its use. Only now, we're retroactively punishing athletes for doing things that their coaches, teammates and some higher ups in their sport all supported, in some form or another, years earlier. I just wish after being caught, these athletes would have the courage to come clean. No excuses. Despite pressures from others, ultimately they made the decision to use performance enhancing drugs which they knew were wrong.
