Hey you can be Irish and African like our president. The U.S. was ready for our first Irish-African president so the chinese can be ready for their first chinese-african athlete. This is a new generation. It shouldn't matter where you come from or what color you are.

The world community is still taken back by the replacement of children performers during the Bejing opening ceremony and looking to discredit China further after the poor air quality for international athletes.
China would be smart to keep it very pc, especially since the young man is of South African decent. China may be new to the question of an African in the mainstream and therefore covering one as we do state side will take developing. However, it will be interesting to see how they cover him and how he is marketed to the people.

China may not be as progressive about ethnic diversity as other parts of the world but the national desire to dominate in all endeavors will help ease any opposition. How well Hui is received will be determined by how well he is able to contribute to the success of his team. Know this: China wants to win first and foremost.
