Wheaties Honors Triathlete Jarrod Shoemaker

Wheaties is featuring triathlete Jarrod Shoemaker on new limited edition packaging this week. "The Breakfast of Champions," has selected Shoemaker largely due to his qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. The article states, " The Breakfast of Champions® continues its tradition of honoring elite athletes and celebrates Shoemaker's outstanding triathlon achievements, adding yet another honor to his impressive list of accomplishments."

I don't want to take away anything from Shoemaker, but four years in the sport of triathlon hardly makes him worthy of a box cover for Wheaties. It made sense when they choose two-time Olympian Hunter Kemper. Kemper had been racing in triathlete since his youth and racked up endless wins on his pursuit to become an Olympian. Not to mention the fact that Kemper had the distinction of being a member of the first US Olympic triathlon squad for the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Wheaties missed the mark on this one. Maybe they can get it right by featuring one of our country's best female triathletes in the near future.
