Sabean, on Yoenis Cespedes: “Price tag is beyond what his talent is”
Most of my posts are about guys the Giants do sign, but this one’s to let you know about a player the team says it won’t go after.
According to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will not be putting on the orange and black anytime soon.
The Giants had previously been rumored to possibly be in on Cespedes, who defected from Cuba...

Malware Contracts Continue to Infest the Giants' Hard Drive in 2012
The 2012 baseball season will be an economic crossroads for the San Francisco Giants. On the contract and player payroll front, two uncontrollable fiscal freight trains headed in opposite directions will soon merge onto the same tracks in an expensive explosion of greenbacks, champaign, and Texas Instruments calculators. On the Oakland A's relocation front, the Giants brain-trust...

Updated Marlins Lineup for 2012
Not much has happened with the Marlins since they signed Mark Buehrle and Jose Reyes, and lost out on C.J. Wilson and Albert Pujols at the Winter Meetings. Since then the Marlins signed veterans Aaron Rowand and Nick Green to Minor League deals and has let Clay Hensley become a free agent. However, the Marlins have continued to make a lot of noise in the rumor mill. Report have...

Aaron Rowand Returns to the NL East
Aaron Rowand has started his path back the NL East as he just signed a minor league deal with the Miami Marlins. (Just saying that if was a minor league deal he wanted, I would have totally done that) Anyway, Rowand was cut last year by the Giants after hitting .233. He has one year left on his contract and the Giants still owe him 12 million for the upcoming season (minus the major...

Triptoe Through the Transactions
The MLB transaction wire is always a fun place in the off season. Professional writers and bloggers expend tons of keystrokes navigating through the tender and not so tendered facts you'll find there. This site used to do a weekly review of said snippets from the wire but it's been an awfully long time. In fact, such a review hasn't happened since Christina Karhl did...

Hot Stove News: Dontrelle To Phillies, Aramis To Brewers, Rowand To Marlins
A major-league source confirmed that the Phillies have agreed to a one-year deal for under $1 million dollars with Dontrelle Willis pending a physical.
Willis posted a 5.00 ERA in 75 2/3 innings for Cincinnati in 2011, but the Phillies apparently saw enough to guarantee the lefthander a one-year contract for 2012 based mostly on how effective he was against left-handed batters.

Thank you, Andres Torres
Let me preface this by saying that if you have not yet read Grant’s love letter to Andres Torres over at McCovey Chronicles, go ahead and do so. And while you’re at it, watch these Torres videos.
Anyway, I’d be remiss if I didn’t pay my own tribute to Torres, as he’s a personal favorite of mine. So here goes…

Remaining Potential Moves for the Mets
With the Winter Meetings wrapping up, what is left for the Mets?
Although the Mets didn't chase after Reyes, they didn't lie down and do nothing this Winter. They brought up their back up plan (or first plan, unclear at this point) which is to 1) have a competitive team in 2012 (basically a team that doesn't give up) and 2) prepare to make a run at strong contention...
