As with the basketball team, no grand soaring narrative bits as the hockey team did what it needed to do against Ohio State. They did in in the way they had to do it if they were going to do it. They further established themselves as a pretty good team that...

Dee Karl: Isles Training Camp Day 2
Of course i'm late. i'm always late. But at least there was coffee at the concession stand this time. It's a reporter full house today as I was wondering why there were so many cars in the parking lot. But the full team is here along with a contingent of family and friends. Yes, it's a big deal even for the players.
Andy Hilbert left the ice early and would...
Islanders Season Review (this should be fun)
Here we go another seasons of if’s when’s, whys, and huhs?? That pretty much wraps up the Islanders off season moves in a nut shell. When are the Islanders getting a new arena, or when are they moving? Why have we not targeted a pure goal scorer to play with Tavares, and the huhs? There are way too many but, what were you smoking when you signed Jon Sim and Andy Hilbert again...

Some quick Isles news and notes
NHLHS New York Islanders correspondent Anthony Curatolo dives into the week that was for the Islanders. Signings, old faces in new places, and a pledge to give back.
What can I say except – well really, you just had to deal with it. Being without computer access, uncontrollably, for a week has created a time consuming recap on all things surrounding the New York Islanders...

Meyer is Now a Thrasher, and Hilbert Returns
Well, Freddy Meyer has found a new home. After the Isles chose not to offer him a contract, the Atlanta Thrashers have done so. I believe it is a one year deal, though I did not see the terms written anywhere as of yet.
Freddy, to me, did a great job during his time on the Long Island. He might not be a top 2 or even a top 4 defenseman, but he used his skills and talents well...

WHAT!! NOT AGAIN!!
I am pretty much getting a little frustrated with the Islander organization. I just don’t get them; maybe it is because we really do need a new arena or something. The Islanders in last couple of weeks have signed Jon Sim and also Andy Hilbert. Yeah you heard it right Sim and Hilbert. Even though it is a two way contract for both I just don’t believe this. We are the only team...

Dee Karl: Hilbert? & A Hisey Fit
I know that a lot of Islander fans right now may be balking left and right over the news that came over the wire today that Andy Hilbert has been signed to a new one-year, 2-way contract. After leaving the Isles and moving on to the Wild, Andy spent a lot of time with their AHL affiliate. We are all under the impression that will be the case this season with the Islanders as well...

Brad Ratgen: 6 Guys for 2 Spots. Wild Roster Down to 27. Need to Get to 23 + IR's
Per Mike Russo, Wild beat writer for the Minneapolis Star Tribune:
Final spots down to Jaime Sifers, John Scott, Andy Hilbert, Nathan Smith and of course, Colton Gillies and Craig Weller.
Soâ?¦
Do you send Craig Weller to the minors? I think thatâ??s a possibility. Heâ??d still make his 600K in the minors, but that comes off the cap. Do you send Colton Gillies to the...
Minnesota Wild Roster Nearly Finalized
With the cuts of Cody Almond, Robbie Earl, Danny Irmen, Matt Kassian, and Marco Scandella this morning, the Wild roster is down to 27 players; just four more cuts away from having their regular season roster set. After the cuts, forwards Colton Gillies, Andy Hilbert, Nathan Smith, and Craig Weller remain fighting for the final forward spot and defensemen Jaime Sifers and John Scott...

Sykora Signs With Wild
via Michael Russo of Russo’s Rants,
The Wild signed winger Petr Sykora today to a one-year contract for $1.6 million. The signing leaves the team $800,000 from salary cap, meaning it’ll be much harder for forwards Colton Gillies and Andy Hilbert to make the team.

Dee Karl: Amazing Andy Goes Wild
For three seasons "Amazing Andy" (as a very SMALL handful of Islanders fans had called him) kept us waiting. Yep, we kept wishing and waiting for Andy Hilbert to finally come into his own. He'd have moments of brillance (maybe more like nano-seconds) and then lapses of lethargy. He'd have one great game and we'd think, "Okay! He found it!" and...
Two out of three for metro teams last night
All in all, it was a pretty successful night for the three metro area teams last night on the road.First, the struggling Islanders got some much needed offense from a couple of unlikely sources in Andy Hilbert (tying marker) and rookie Blake Comeau's first NHL career goal in a come from behind 4-2 wi...

New York Islanders Modern Day Mickey Mouse Operation
After a 13-4 drubbing of the New Jersey Devils in 1984 a game in which the Edmonton Oilers scored at will, Wayne Gretzkly famously labeled the Devils a "Mickey Mouse operation on ice." But judging from a recent visit to Nassau Coliseum, the Great One could apply the tag to the modern day New York Islanders. Here are 10 reason why the Islanders could be considered Mickey...

Crap
Tonight might have been one of the best games the Islanders played all season. It wasn't good enough. This is what life as an Islanders fan is like. This game represented the final two points that meant anything for the rest of the season. Trade Deadline Eve
Sorry to usurp Zach, who wrote a quality preview of tomorrow's trade deadline. I just wanted to make a few quick points...?- It's hard to say what to make of all of today's waiver activity. Some big names were unceremoniously dumped, players Zach (and many others) believe could have fetched at least late-round picks from contending teams. In my eyes, the problem is that...

Meet Dean McAmmond...
Last year, the Islanders made a huge mistake in not trading all of their potential free agents - Miroslav Satan, Ruslan Fedotenko, and Mike Comrie, to be specific. It turned out not to be a big deal with Comrie, because he re-signed on the Island and played this year as well. Satan and Fedotenko were big mistakes. GM Garth Snow needed to realize his team was going to miss the playoffs...
