Charting the Colts’ Offensive Line: Week 14 vs. Browns

Writer’s note: Due to server issues/media upload problems, this week’s piece had to be posted on Colts Authority, rather than sister site and film review depot Colts Academy. This post won’t include the usual graphics and won’t be quite as image- and GIF-heavy as the Colts Academy posts (though I still worked in a fair number). If you’d like to see definitions of any terminology...

The Colts faced their most hated rival at the Luke trying to avenge last year’s playoff loss. Sadly, the game was just as bad as that one in Foxboro. This week we start making the Report Cards a bit shorter and it couldn’t have come at a better time. No one really wants to relive that ugly, painful nightmare again.   OFFENSE: This was one of those “Luck can’t do it all...

Fat guy glory: Watch 11 offensive linemen scoring touchdowns

There's no football play that brings us more joy than an offensive lineman touchdown score. Offensive lineman block for a living and "skilled" players make plays, but once in a blue moon, the big fellas get the glory. Normally when an offensive lineman (minus the center) gets his mitts on the football, something disastrous has happened for the offense -- a botched snap, a fumble...

Trampled: Colts 20 Patriots 42

The Colts started things off with a three and out, then on defense, allowed the Patriots to march 89 yards, mostly on the ground, for the first touchdown of the game. It bore an eerie resemblance to their playoff matchup a few months ago. There were glimmers of hope here and there – and the game was mostly close until the fourth quarter, but overall, the defense was punch-less...

Fat Guy Touchdown

The Colts have not looked good in Indianapolis tonight. In fact, I would venture to say that the only player looked good was Anthony Castonzo, the left tackle who grabbed a touchdown to pull Indy to within 8 in the third quarter, and then busted out a pretty stellar dance. If he works this hard on end zone celebrations, maybe we could see how well he could play linebacker?

It's every offensive lineman's dream. Indianapolis Colts tackle Anthony Castonzo got the chance to show off his soft hands on Sunday night against the New England Patriots. WATCH: Indianapolis Colts Offensive Lineman Anthony Castonzo Celebrates Touchdown With Street Fighter Inspired Celebration

In the fourth quarter and down by 15 the Indianapolis Colts were trying to figure out what they could do to get the ball in the end zone once they got close. It took a couple tries, but eventually someone thought it would be a good idea to give it to one of the big boys on the offensive line. So they made tackle Anthony Castonzo eligible, threw him the ball, he caught it for a touchdown...

Anthony Castonzo to face his biggest challenge yet

Anthony Castonzo and J.J. Watt were drafted 11 spots apart in the 2011 NFL Draft, but their careers have taken different paths since entering the league. Watt has established himself as the best defensive end in the league, making first team All-Pro twice, two Pro Bowls, and the 2012 defensive player of the year. Castonzo struggled to acclimate to the speed of the game, and until...

Offensive Line has Been Pleasant Surprise for Colts

The Indianapolis Colts had several flaws to address last offseason, and entering 2014, the biggest concern was still the offensive line.Let’s be honest: The unit has been bad the last several seasons. Andrew Luck was sacked a whopping 73 times in his first two seasons, and with a projected starting lineup of Anthony Castonzo (LT), Donald Thomas (LG), Khaled Holmes ©, Hugh Thornton...

Get to Know an Offensive Lineman: Colts Anthony Castonzo, a Barbarian with a refined side

Busy with dirty work in the trenches, offensive linemen don't get the glory enjoyed by "skilled" players. In fact, if their number gets called at all, that usually means they've screwed up. They don't get drafted to fantasy teams, and the casual NFL fan can probably name no more than a few big men up front. We here at The Buzzer want to give NFL offensive linemen a voice and some...

Horseshoe Mailbag: Indianapolis Colts need to fix one issue

The Indianapolis Colts are headed to Denver this weekend to take on Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Just last season, the Colts upset the undefeated Broncos at home 39-33. The Colts sacked Manning four times that night, and forced him to throw an interception, all keys to rattling one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game. This time however, the Colts will have to do so without...

Charting the Colts’ Offensive Line: Preseason Week 3

It wasn’t a pretty game, but Andrew Luck’s struggles in Saturday’s loss to the Saints masked some promising signs for the Colts. The offensive line had its best percentages of the preseason almost across the board, including in run blocking, gap blocking, lead blocking and pass blocking (see here for an explanation of some of the terminology I use here). And the running backs...

Charting the Colts’ Offensive Line: Preseason Week 2

The Colts’ offense appears to be on the cusp of breaking through. Five first-team drives in two preseason games have generated 13 points, a middling figure, but three of the four drives that started in the Colts’ half have reached their opponents’ territory (one began in the Giants’ half after a turnover). Aside from that running back who makes everyone grumpy, the biggest...

Colts-Giants Post Game Recap

The Indianapolis Colts were dominant from the beginning. The offense looked composed, in sync and on the ball. They went pass-heavy very early on, and they moved the ball very efficiently. With Reggie Wayne and TY Hilton out, Hakeem Nicks was the No. 1 guy, and he stepped up and delivered a blow to his old team, hauling in 5 catches. Luck was perfect as well, extending plays with...
