Fasth hurt after collision at Oilers practice

Viktor Fasth needed to be assisted off the ice at Edmonton Oilers practice Monday after a collision left the netminder shaken up. During a drill, forward Anton Lander collided with Fasth, who remained on the ice for several minutes. Head coach Dallas Eakins told reporters Fasth has a sprained neck and that it doesn’t appear the Swede is concussed.

With Jesse Joensuu out, Edmonton Oilers give Anton Lander longer look-see

With Jesse Joensuu walking out of Rexall Place in a medical boot on Monday, odds are good Anton Lander will be staying for a while. The Oilers forward was called up from the Oklahoma City Barons for the recent four-game trip, and for a while Sunday, it appeared as though he scored his first goal of the season in a 2-1 win against the Carolina Hurricanes. The goal was later awarded...

Gagner nursing a sore ankle, iffy against St. Louis

Sam Gagner is a maybe, which also means he’s a maybe not. So the Edmonton Oilers have summoned Anton Lander on emergency recall in case Gagner’s ankle isn’t ready for Thursday’s game in St. Louis. Gagner left Tuesday’s win in Minnesota after landing awkwardly on a hit from Matt Cooke, but returned for the third period and overtime. He took Wednesday’s practice off and...

Desktop GM: Letang to Edmonton for ..... by @ToonsBrian

Recently, we at put out the call for you, the reader, to assume the role of Pens GM and propose trades to us so that we could break them down Mythbusters-style. The response you showed was, frankly overwhelming. We’re doing our best to accommodate as many as we can in this Trade Deadline Season. One of the first we received was from Michael, who proposed this...

Oilers place Bryzgalov on IR, swap AHL players

After Tuesday’s aggravating 6-2 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes, the Edmonton Oilers tweaked their lineup on Wednesday. Ilya Bryzgalov was placed on the IR with his concussion-or-whiplash issues, making room for some swaps between the big club and the AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons. Recalled: Defenseman Martin Marincin, Corey Potter and forward Anton Lander. Demoted: Defenseman Denis...

Steve Tambellini hired by Ducks to be part-time professional scout

After months of silence, former Oilers GM Steve Tambellini was heard from, after a fashion, late Wednesday night, when the Anaheim Ducks announced they had hired him as a part-time pro scout. Tambellini, 55, served as the Oilers GM from 2008 to 2013 when he was replaced last April by longtime Oilers player and head coach Craig MacTavish. Tambellini took the wheel of a franchise...

Matt Henderson: Oilers Cut 4...5?

The Edmonton Oilers training camp ended abruptly last night for 4 hopefuls and there may be one more coming soon. Darnell Nurse, Anton Lander, Tyler Pitlick, and Taylor Fedun were all cut immediately after last night’s game. I’m sure these men still lost sleep last night, but it wasn’t because they didn’t know what was going to happen next. There are some rumblings...

Richard Cloutier: Nurse Addition Changes the Dynamic in Edmonton

Not enough forwards. I said that over, and over, and over before the NHL draft. And I am right: The Oilers as an organization lack quality prospect forwards. Perhaps their best "prospects" up front are Magnus Paajarvi and Anton Lander. Lander will be the 4th line center for the Oilers this season, and I received a text message from a source last night suggesting Paajarvi...

Richard Cloutier: Iggy to Boston; Lucic to Edmonton...New Information

More on the rumor I posted earlier... It sounds like the asking price for Milan Lucic is more than Ryan Whitney, Magnus Paajarvi and Anton Lander. Hold on to your hats, folks, because the Oilers could be rolling the Risk Dice tonight. Will it come up all 6's? Make the deal Lucic for Whitney, Paajarvi, and the Oilers 1st round pick in 2013. Holy smokes. So here's...

Ryan Updates

The Edmonton Oilers are in a familiar position; a lineup decimated by injury, in the middle of a losing streak, and all the while the playoffs appear to be getting further and further away. Missing their top line centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Shawn Horcoff, Eric Belanger and now Anton Lander the Oilers are desperately low on centermen. And while playing Ryan Smyth at center will...

Do The Oilers Need A Center?

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, Unlike the San Jose Sharks, who have about eight natural centres amongst their top 12 forwards–moving Patty Marleau and Joe Pavelski and Scott Gomez to the wing–the Edmonton Oilers are seriously lacking in that commodity.  With  Shawn Horcoff breaking a knuckle on his hand and Eric Belanger busting two toes , both blocking shots...

Richard Cloutier: Horcoff Out; Paajarvi Out; Lander in; Petrell Has a Sore Paw

As I suspected, Shawn Horcoff was injured by the perfectly innocent hit from behind provided by Phoenix winger Shane Doan. Not only should have Doan received a penalty for that hit, but it should have been sent to the league for review. Absolute cheap-shot. Anton Lander has been called up and will play for Horcoff tonight. In order for the Oilers to make roster room, it was necessary...

Richard Cloutier: Who Could Win in Edmonton from the NHL Lockout?

If you check back a few blogs ago, you'll find a blog when I discuss as many as 12 current Oilers roster players who could be gone if the lockout continues longer than one season. Much of the replacements will come internally. One exampled I offered is the 3rd line going from the current Ryan Smyth/Shawn Horcoff/Ryan Jones situation to Magnus Paajarvi/Anton Lander/Teemu Hartikainen...

Ducks Do The Hunting

Oilers lose 5-0 to Ducks Not much was going right for the Oilers Friday night. The only goal scored was one by Anton Lander, but it didn’t count because the referee had lost sight of the free puck and whistled the play down just before Lander hammered the puck in.
