The 49ers activated Brandon Jones and Jason Hill , while deactivating Michael Spurlock and Allen Rossum , something suggested on this very blog on Saturday.
You would think the Arnaz Battle would return punts or Nate Clements and either Battle or Delanie Walker would be the kick...

Why? When you give a guy J.T. O'Sullivan, Shaun Hill, Arnaz Battle, Darrell Jackson and Isaac "I was old in 2000" Bruce to work with, you expect magic? Why are teams hiring non-retread coaches and then firing them when the franchise doesn't turn around? In the salary...

KR Allen Rossum has been released in order to open up a roster spot for Michael Crabtree. Michael Spurlock, owner of the Bucs' only KR touchdown in their history, will likely now step into the return role for kicks and Arnaz Battle will likely continue as the punt returner.

Why the 49ers still want Crabtree

I still haven't found a respected football person who believes Crabtree (and agent Eugene Parker) has much of a case to get paid more than dictated by his draft position as No. 10 overall pick. Public sentiment is solidly on the side of the 49ers.
And there appears to...

sprained feet tend to linger; a good example would be Arnaz Battle last year, who sprained his foot in Week 9 and never made it back onto the field. Deion Branch sprained his foot in Week 5 of the 2007 season in a game against the Steelers and missed five weeks; he averaged 86 yards...

49ers release WR Darrell Jackson; changes outlook for team and draft
The 49ers have released wide receiver Darrell Jackson. With the recent signing of Bryant Johnson, this leaves the team with Arnaz Battle, Isaac Bruce, Ashley Lelie, and Jason Hill to compete for the starting jobs. This looks like enough for the team not to pursue a possible wide receiver...
49ers' 'Taser' is their Wildcat
"Don't Taze me, bro!" Sorry, but the 49ers will do just that at some point this season. In a copycat league, the 49ers are calling their version of the Wildcat formation the Taser. Wide receivers Michael Spurlock and Arnaz Battle took shotgun snaps in the...

Today, I wrote about the 49ers' offensive philosophy. Offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye said before the season he wanted to run the ball 60-percent of the time. Of course, they haven't come close to that, but the 49ers are running the ball 58 percent on first-and-10 situations...
