Ryan blows another save. Is a big $$$ Closer contract worth it?

Is their really a reason to spend $10+ million on a closer when you can get a marginally (3% - 4% Save conversion rate) poorer closer at a 50%+ discount?

Can Somebody Explain To Me This ‘I Heart BJs’ Toronto Blue Jays Jersey?

Wait. What? I don’t get it. I did some very rudimentary research on the interwebs, and the best I can come up with is this kid is a fan of both former Toronto Blue Jays pitcher B.J. Ryan and former Blue Jays mascot BJ Birdie, but that cannot be it, can it? Ryan hasn’t pitched [...]

Chris Carpenter Goes Fishing, Shoots A Caiman And Jacks Up His Toe

So, apparently, Roy Halladay, B.J. Ryan and our very own Chris Carpenter all went on a fishing trip with pro fisher Skeet Reese in the Amazon of all places. Reese  wrote about it on his site: “We had plenty of wildlife encounters though.  Along with the fishing, we decided to go hunting one night, and Carpenter and B.J. both shot a caiman; which is like an alligator.  Me and...

Around the Horn: Patriot's Day Edition

You have to feel bad for the Yankees at this point as their pitching staff is decimated. (ok...not too bad) Its interesting to look at Arod's contribution this year, clearly better than in years past, but still not excelling in clutch situations (aside from the granny to win it) as much as you might think. The trick is he has been in high leverage at bats 11% more than any...

Ryan Madson Should Consider a One-Year Contract

Poor Ryan Madson. When the off-season first opened, it looked like he all set to get a big fat four-year, $40 million contract from the Phillies only to have them pull it off the table right when he thought they had an agreement. Now, several weeks later, Madson finds himself jobless and waiting for a comparable offer to the one he thought he had to come along. Waiting... Waiting...

Did Roy Halladay Really Save a Boy from an Anaconda Attack in the Amazon?

Earlier this month, some MLB pitchers took a fishing trip to the Amazon.  Roy Halladay, Chris Carpenter, and B.J. Ryan made the trek to Brazil with professional sport fisherman and outdoor enthusiast Skeet Reese.  According to Reese, it turned into more than just a fishing trip. In a post entitled “A Jungle Out There” on his website, Reese talked about the trip and...

Will Godfrey or Ricciardi Be Brought Back?

Blue Jays President Paul Godfrey's contract expires at the conclusion of this season and it is not yet clear whether or not the Jays will bring him back. Under Godgrey's watch, the Jays have suffered 9 straight seasons without a Play-Off birth, extending the streak to 15 years or 14 seasons. Roy Halladay Saves Boy From Anaconda While Fishing On The Amazon

According to NESN, Roy Halladay was on a fishing trip in the Amazon with Chris Carpenter, B.J. Somehow, We Missed Carpenter's Anaconda Attack

Ex-Blue Jays Vs. Anacondas

Without question, the most underplayed story from this week in sports is the one where Roy Halladay rescues a guy in the Amazon who had just been attacked by an anaconda. No, seriously. Halladay was on a fishing expedition with former teammates Chris Carpenter and B.J. Ryan and pro angler Skeet Reese (do you think Skeet gets jealous that they don’t invite him to go pitching...
