Castro's Quest
The Savior knocked out 3 hits including his 9th home run last year and is up to 190 hits. That's 10 hits shy of the magic 200 mark for the math impaired. He has 15 games to do it, which I don't believe will be a problem unless Q-Ball decides he needs another life lesson on the bench. By my back of the envelope calculations, if he stays healthy, he's on pace to reach 3...

Could The Mets Make A “White Flag Trade”?
In baseball history, there have been many times when a team has been on the edge between contention and being out of it and the Front Office has to make a decision of whether to go for it, stand pat or sell off pieces for the future.
The New York Mets, with 24 days before the trading deadline are right in the middle of that issue. With the team 9.5 games out of first place in the...

San Francisco Giants' Draft Success
I decided I'd mine Baseball-Reference to produce an interactive graphic of the San Francisco Giants' draft history (1958-2010). Below is the result.
-- Blue denotes college picks, green denotes Junior College, and yellow = high school
-- The size of the circle is based on career rWAR
-- You can sort by year
-- It's important to note that these are all the picks, and...

SF Giants Rumors – Howry Hangs Up His Spikes, Wilson Has A Website
Ex-Giant Bob Howry retires, and I’m not sure how Giants fans even feel about it? Howry did have a decent career as a reliever. Howry never started a game in his professional career, but in a Giants uniform it seemed like he was always on the short end of the stick. I know this isn’t true, but it seemed like every time he took the mound he would end up with the loss or...

Seatowning 2/28/11
The Leadoff: Bob Howry retiresChicago Cubs reliever Bob Howry has retired after 13 seasons. For most people this is irrelvant news, but for anybody that has ever played the now defunct trading card game, MLB Showdown, Bob Howry is legendary. (Ignore these next few sentences if you have never played MLB Showdown) Bob Howry's 2002 card was a staple for any MLB Shodown team'...

Bob Howry Retires
Right-hander Bob Howry, a 13-year veteran, has retired, writes Carrie Muskat of MLB.com.
Howry's 769-appearance career (all in relief) was bookended by stints with the Chicago ballclubs. He broke in with the White Sox in 1998 and spent four-plus years there, then moving onto the Red Sox, Indians, Cubs, Giants and Diamondbacks before returning last year to the North Siders...

Famous on-field takedowns
Marlins veteran reliever Will Ohman has seen his share of intense and interesting on field altercations through the years.
On Sept. 1, there was high drama at Sun Life Stadium when the Marlins and Nationals went at it after Nyjer Morgan charged pitcher Chris Volstad. Both benches cleared and the rest has become history.
The way Gaby Sanchez knocked down Morgan with a clothes-line...

5 Surprises: Arizona Diamondbacks
Five Diamondbacks surprises that I would not have predicted in the offseason:
Josh Byrnes' firing. Byrnes' contract ran through 2015 and included an ownership stake, so his July dismissal took me by surprise. The departure of Jeff Moorad may have been a factor, reported the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro. General Managing Partner Ken Kendrick...

(Probably) Inconsequential, frustrating
Yesterday’s game was pretty much a wash, because by all accounts Ubaldo was on his game. He probably wanted a little bit of revenge for the game in early July in which the Giants tagged him for 7. On that 7, by the way, the biggest blow was Ishikawa’s grand slam. Well, they showed that HR again yesterday. Not to taking anything away (well, maybe) but that was a Coors Field HR...

So Long Bob Howry…Again
Back in May, Cubs fans cried out that Bob Howry AKA Homerun Howry was coming back to the Cubs. For one reason or another the Chicago Cubs felt that Howry would stabilize the bull-pen with his veteran presence. However, that was not the case. While Howry started out well for the Cubs, he finished with a record of 0-2 and had an ERA of 5.66.
Needless to say the Chicago Cubs released...
