Just a quick weekend post.
The Dodgers are currently 7-3, tied for the lead in the NL west. They’ve won five games in a row and have been hitting like expected. Still, the pitching staff, particularly the starters, have seemed uneven. Brandon McCarthy survived a four homer start, and Clayton Kershaw gave up two last night. By ERA-, the Dodgers have been 6% worse than the league...
Dodger starters are no strangers to unusual games lately. A few nights ago, Brandon McCarthy struck out ten, walked none, and allowed four home runs. On opening day, Clayton Kershaw induced one of the highest whiff rates of his career, yet gave up three runs. On his next turn, he allowed six runs. Tonight’s 7-3 win against the Rockies continued the trend.
On the one hand, Clayton...

Draft season is over but in my experiences early in the season is a great time to make trades that can seriously alter your fantasy team’s future. One guy I own in two of the three leagues I am in is Brandon McCarthy, and I strongly suggest you do what you can to get him on your team as well.
The first part of it is his success last year in New York...
If you’re freaking out over last night’s bullpen implosion, know two things: 1) yes, the bullpen without Kenley Jansen is thin and scary, and 2) if you were expecting to have nothing but 100% perfect, then your expectations were sorely miscalibrated. Of course the bullpen was going to blow a game. Obviously.
The San Diego Padres feature five newcomers atop their revamped lineup, and each has made contributions through the first two games of the season.
Brandon McCarthy now looks to make an impression of his own in his first start for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

A few years ago, Brandon McCarthy threw out a question that baseball Twitter scrambled to research: how often do Opening Day starting pitchers throw a first-pitch non-fastball? Suggested is that first-pitch fastballs, here, are extremely common and extremely predictable, and the results fell in line. It wasn’t clear there had been any first-pitch non-fastballs, and […]
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Dodgers starter Brandon McCarthy got tagged as Chris Coghlan homered and drove in three runs, leading the Chicago Cubs over Los Angeles 7-5 Wednesday.
McCarthy gave up six runs and eight hits in four innings. In nine innings this spring, the Dodgers newcomer has allowed eight runs and 13 hits.
Coghlan hit a two-run homer in the second inning after a two-run...

With the start of the MLB regular season right around the corner, TopSportsReport thought it was time to ramp up our baseball coverage. In order to jump start our coverage, we decided it would be smart for us to have an article where we could share some opinions about each team. In order to do so, we decided to put out a power rankings article...
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) Brandon McCarthy gave up a run in three innings Friday night in his second spring for the Los Angeles Dodgers, a 3-3 tie with the Cincinnati Reds.
McCarthy, who signed a four-year, $48-million free-agent contract with the Dodgers on Dec. 16, gave up an RBI double to Chris Dominguez in the second inning and three hits overall.
The right-hander, a projected starter...

What’s the biggest potential weakness of the 2015 Dodgers? Everyone who just said “right-handed power” can go sit in the corner. Stop. Just stop it. That’s not it. That doesn’t matter.
It is, probably without a ton of controversy, starting rotation depth. We’ve been over this a bunch of times. All five members of the 2015 rotation — Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun...
Besides his pitching, Brandon McCarthy also has value of another sort, which is his entertaining Twitter account and just generally being more accessible than most professional athletes. Late last night, McCarthy displayed the value of that accessibility clearer than ever by engaging journalist Molly Knight in an elongated conversation about the athlete/media dynamic.
The 2015 baseball season is officially underway.
Pitchers and catchers reported for spring training Thursday, Feb. 19th, and the rest of the team is set to join them on Wednesday Feb. 25th.
After a disappointing end to the 2014 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers and their fans are very much in need of a fresh start. With all the new additions to the team, fans are very much looking...
In 2014 during his age-30 season, Brandon McCarthy finally broke out. The guy with the 4.05 ERA and 1.28 WHIP broke out? As we delve into his statistics you’ll see that 2014 was by far the most effective year of his career despite what the final numbers say.
As we all know the Diamondbacks sold low on McCarthy this past season, netting only the lowly Vidal Nuno in return. Nuno...
During Farhan Zaidi’s press conference discussing the Brandon McCarthy signing, the Dodgers designated Brian Wilson for assignment to make room for McCarthy on the 40-man roster.
This is certainly a move some have, for lack of a better term, fantasized about but thought it was a pipe dream of sorts. Then we remember this isn’t Ned Colletti’s front office anymore.
LOS ANGELES (AP) Pitcher Brandon McCarthy and the Los Angeles Dodgers have finalized a four-year contract.
The deal was agreed to last week at the winter meetings and announced Tuesday.
A 31-year-old right-hander, McCarthy was 3-10 with a 5.01 ERA in 18 starts this year for Arizona, which traded him to the Yankees on July 6 for pitcher Vidal Nuno. McCarthy went 7-5 with a 2.89 ERA...

When the Los Angeles Dodgers traded Dan Haren to the Miami Marlins, I was concerned about the teams’ sense of humor.
Haren (@ithrow88) is a great follow on Twitter, despite only having 45 career tweets. His best, this one:

The Los Angeles Dodgers have added injury-prone starting pitcher Brett Anderson on a one-year, $10 million contract that could yield the veteran another $4 million in incentives.
This comes on the heels of a whole host of moves by the new Dodgers front office during MLB’s winter meetings. The team added Jimmy Rollins, Howie Kendrick and Brandon McCarthy, among others, last week...
Last week, pitcher Brandon McCarthy signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in a move that will net him $48 million over the next four years. McCarthy must have been incredibly excited about the prospect of wearing a Dodgers uniform. Instead of waiting, McCarthy decided to “photoshop” a picture of himself so that he’d be wearing

Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers during a wave of hot stove action last week and probably one of his next orders of business is finding a home in a new city.
Nevertheless, McCarthy carved out some time, though very little, to update his Twitter avatar, which had showed him wearing Yankees' pinstripes. Here it is after the MS Paint update:
Brandon McCarthy is a better pitcher then he is an artist.
The free-agent pitcher reportedly agreed to a four-year, $48 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers that was finalized Monday, ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports, citing league sources. But that left his Twitter avatar in a weird spot.
McCarthy couldn’t keep up the image of him in a New York Yankees uniform, so he wasted...
Durability can be a difficult thing to prove, but it can be an easier thing to demonstrate. And teams are fond of players they can count on, which is one of the reasons why Nick Markakis got four guaranteed years while the Mariners sold a relatively cheap Michael Saunders. Francisco Liriano has a history of […]
If reports are true, I cannot blame the Yankees for not matching the four-year offer Brandon McCarthy accepted last night from the Los Angeles Dodgers. McCarthy deserves, at-best, a three-year deal and, realistically, nothing more than a two-year deal. I also cannot blame McCarthy for going where the money is. Actually, the phrase "where the money is" is a bit misleading. The Yankees...
