Phillies add utility player Brian Bixler

The Philadelphia Philies have added infielder/outfielder Brian Bixler via a minor league contract. Bixler, 31, should offer the Phillies some organizational depth but probably will not make the team out of spring training. Last season he appeared at the Triple-A level in the New York Mets system hitting .259./323/.372 over 101 games. In Bixler’s big league career he has seen action...

51s Continue Winning Ways With 2-1 Win Over Fresno

Las Vegas 2, Fresno 1 The 51s won yet another game — this time behind Matt Fox, who turned in seven stellar innings of one-run ball to pick up his seventh win of the year. Robert Carson and Greg Burke combined for the final six outs while allowing just two hits — and walking none. In fact, Fox didn’t walk any batters either, which worked out well for them the entire game. He...

Las Vegas 51s batters combined to hit three home runs tonight against visiting New Orleans, but it wasn’t enough in a 12-9 loss at Cashman Field. Travis d’Arnaud went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for Las Vegas, including a two-run home run in the first inning for a 2-0 Las Vegas lead. Why Is Puello Still in Binghamton?

If you’re wondering like me why outfield prospect Cesar Puello hasn’t been promoted to Triple-A yet, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York sheds some light. A team official suggested a promotion to Las Vegas is not imminently looming for Puello, though. The Mets do not mind Puello finally having a prolonged period of success. Plus, the outfield is about to become crowded in Triple-A with...

Hot-Hitting Satin Drives In Four In 7-1 Vegas Win

Las Vegas 7, Reno 1 Josh Satin caught wind of Ike Davis showing signs of life at the plate and decided that he needed to step it up a notch – so he ripped four hits and drove in four runs in this 7-1 Las Vegas victory. On the pitching end of the victory was Carlos Torres, who has honestly turned it up a notch ever since I called him out in the beginning of May. I honestly don...

Schwinden Gives Up Five Earned Runs, 51s Can’t

Albuquerque 8, Las Vegas 5 It was a tough night for Chris Schwinden, who was knocked around for four runs in the first inning, and this left the 51s in a defecit that they would never look back from. Schwinden would be on the hook for five earned runs in his five innings of action. Greg Peavey had no more luck than he did in his two innings of work, as he allowed two earned runs...

Torres Rocked For Nine Runs In 9-5 Vegas Loss

Round Rock 9, Las Vegas 5 I am not a mean-spirited guy when it comes to baseball, honestly, but why is Carlos Torres on our AAA team? He was lit up again on Wednesday night for a grand total of nine earned runs over 4+ innings and it was just a really rough performance. He allowed five of those runs in the top of the first alone, capped off by a three-run homer by Jim Adduci....

Lutz and Bixler claim Justin Turner is a Svengali

When most of us think of Justin Turner, we think of the fun-loving guy who walks to the plate to the girly pop sounds of “Call Me Maybe” and who likes to deliver shaving cream pies to the faces of unsuspecting teammates when they are being interviewed on TV. But according to minor leaguers Zach Lutz and Brian Bixler, that’s all a carefully designed act to portray Turner as...

Justin Turner Taking Over Third Base; Mets Lineup Against Marlins

Memo To Mets: Stop Screwing Around And Sign Dickey And Wright

The press release came via email as it always does and my first reaction was: How insignificant is Brian Bixler? Another meaningless signing by the Mets, who continue to insult their dwindling fan base...
