Non Roster Invitee: Brian Shouse – Red Sox

The highlight of Red Sox camp appears to be whether the team can find a second left handed pitcher out of the bullpen. While I’ve never thought too much of the second lefty myself (I believe it’s more like the third string QB, its already screwed if he comes in) there is nonetheless an endless supply of those in the Northeast who are curious of what is going on in Sox...

Brian Shouse's dad was not in the FBI.

Boston has signed ancient lefty reliever Brian Shouse. Shouse looks like the same guy as Javier Lopez, inasmuch as he is a one-out lefty with a sidearm delivery. He does not, however, resemble Jay Leno as much as Lopez did.Shouse was last spotted as a Ray, where he declined arbitration and became a type B free agent. Tampa Bay is not getting compensation for this because Shouse signed...

Minor Moves and Big League Hopefuls

In a flurry of moves late last week, the Sox signed seven players to minor league deals. For some, the moves will result in mid-season call-ups or a cup of coffee in September. For others, the moves are very curious from a career-advancement standpoint as many are blocked by what is already substantial organizational depth. Even so, injuries and circumstance will assuredly open...
