The BP First Take: Friday, February 3 by Daniel Rathman
As spring training approaches, almost every player looking for a bounce-back season claims to be in the best shape of his life. Pirates infielder Casey McGehee is no exception; Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Bill Brink tweeted on Thursday that the first-year Bucco has lost nearly 25 pounds and “cut [his] body fat in half.” The premise may be as clichéd as any in...

Pirates Exchange Figures With Jones, McGehee
The Pittsburgh Pirates reached pre-arbitration deals with five players in the last two days, but were unable to come to a deal with their final two players. The club exchanged arbitration figures today with those two players: Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee. According to the figures produced by Rob Biertempfel, the sides are close.
Jones submitted for $2.5 M, while the Pirates submitted...

Peace, McGehee!
In 2009, Casey McGehee surprised Brewers fans when he revealed himself to be a not-entirely-****** (and, at times, even good) guy at doing baseball while filling in for an injured Rickie Weeks and an OHMYGODSOTERRIBLE!!! Bill E. Hall at second and third base. He chased that partial season of partial OK-ness with a 23-home run, 104-RBI showing for the 2010 Ken Macha cyborg squad Brewers...

McGehee, Jones exchange arb figures
The Pirates have not yet reached agreements with their two remaining arbitration eligible players (Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee), but it looks like they will soon.
Tuesday night was the deadline for arb-eligible players and teams to exchange 2012 salary figures. Jones asked for $2.5 million while the Pirates submitted $2.25 million. McGehee asked for $2.725 million and the Bucs...

How likely is a Casey McGehee bounceback?
The Brewers have somewhere around a million questions surrounding their team and what they will do with it this offseason, and somewhere in the middle of all of them is Casey McGehee. After being a key contributor in 2009 and 2010, the third baseman fell off a (very high) cliff last year, to the tune of a .228/.280/.346 line for a guy who had an .800 OPS or better in each...

Brewers acquire RHP in McGehee trade
MILWAUKEE - With free agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez set to join the Brewers, the team made space for him Monday by trading Casey McGehee to Pittsburgh for right-hander Jose Veras.
McGehee, 29, was named the Brewers' Most Valuable Player in 2010 after hitting .285 with 23 home runs and 104 RBI. He had a miserable season in 2011, though, hitting just .223 with 13 home runs and...

Casey McGehee is a Pirate
Well that didn’t take long. Mere hours after signing Aramis Ramirez to man the keystone for the next three seasons, the Milwaukee Brewers traded former third baseman Casey McGehee to the Pittsburgh Pirates for Jose Veras. While McGehee exceeded expectations with the Brewers initially — he slumped badly last season — and was eventually replaced by Jerry Hairston...

Lay off Casey McGehee
Lost in the elation of yesterday's win was a single moment in the game that really pissed me and other like minded Brewers fans off. With the Brewers up five runs in the eighth inning and K-Rod due to bat at the top of the inning the Brewers called upon a pinch hitter. The hitter chosen by Brewers manager Ron Roenicke was Casey McGehee. Casey McGehee took about two pitches before...

Aramis Signing Opens up Possible Trade Option for Tigers

With the recent signing of 3B free agent Aramis Ramirez going to the Milwaukee Brewers for 3 years $36M (according to Brewers.com),  the Brewers now former 3B Casey McGehee could be on the trading soon. The Platoon of Garrett Jones & Casey McGehee
With every passing day, the Pirates get closer to starting their 2012 season with Garrett Jones and Casey McGehee as their starting first basemen. All offseason there was speculation that the Pirates could try and upgrade at the position, but it's becoming very clear to me that they are not going to do that. It's becoming clear because the Pirates still have some money to...

Watch your back, Pedro; McGehee is a Pirate
The Pirates continued to revamp their roster this offseason by trading for Brewers third baseman Casey McGehee last night in exchange for reliever Jose Veras.

The move came hours after the Brewers agreed to terms with free-agent third baseman Aramis Ramirez on Monday.

Brewers trade McGehee for surprisingly useful reliever
This probably shouldn't be as much of a surprise as it was, but the Brewers capped off a busy day by trading Casey McGehee to the Pittsburgh Pirates for reliever Jose Veras. With Aramis Ramirez signing with the Brewers earlier in the day and the non-tender deadline at 11 p.m. Central, today seemed like a good bet to be McGehee's last with the Brewers one way or another. The Brewers...

The Pirates and Brewers swapped 2 non-tender candidates this evening when reliever Jose Veras was shipped out to Milwaukee for 3B Casey McGehee.
Jose Veras served as the club’s 8th inning man for most of the year last year as he posted a 3.80 ERA in 71 innings. He struck out 79 and walked 34. Veras was eligible for arbitration and was set to make around $2.5 million.

Casey McGehee's Rough Year
Casey McGehee is a Brewer. We have always hated Casey McGehee. Casey McGehee is a Pirate. We have always loved Casey McGehee. When the Pirates picked up Casey McGehee last night, my initial instinct was to remember that how awful he was in 2011 and how overrated I thought he was in 2010. Being overrated doesn't mean that a player isn't useful, of course (see: Neil Walker), which...

Brewers trade McGehee for Reliever Jose Veras
The Milwaukee Brewers have traded third baseman Casey McGehee to the Pittsburgh Pirates for reliever Jose Veras.
After the Brewers acquired Aramis Ramirez earlier today via free agency, a trade became more likely for McGehee. I personally thought there was no way the Brewers would deal McGehee because of his prolific 2010 season and that he would be able to platoon first base with...
