Bench provides lift as Gators knock out FGCU

ARLINGTON, Texas -- They don't have a T-shirt with caricatures in their honor plastered across the front or even a nickname. As a collective group, this trio is more substance than flash. Reserves Will Yeguete, Michael Frazier and Casey Prather are critical to Florida's success but they garnered little attention leading into Friday night's showdown with Florida Gulf Coast...

FGCU's NCAA runs ends 62-50 to Florida

Florida Gulf Coast had already captured the attention of a nation, the No. 15 seed that busted brackets and brought a high-flying act from ''Dunk City'' to the NCAA tournament. So when the journey ended with a 62-50 loss to that bigger school from Florida just before midnight Friday, the Eagles had still left their mark on March. ''We made history,'...

Who are the Gators? A Q&A with Alligator Alley

Only one thing stands between the Gophers and the second week of the tournament – the Florida Gators. Easy, right? Admittedly, I haven’t watched a whole lot of Florida basketball this year since the SEC is relatively inaccessible in these parts. To help give us a little idea who who the Gators are and what [...]

Casey Prather gives Gators boost over 'Bama

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Early in the game as he sat on the bench waiting for his first chance to get on the floor, there was something evident to Casey Prather. Prather said he turned to fellow reserve Will Yeguete and the two discussed how their teammates needed an energy boost. And no, they were not talking about a Red Bull. Prather continues to impress

At least once a game, Casey Prather reminds the crowd of what he can be. The junior forward is starting to harness and show that athleticism more consistently. It used to flash every once in a while during practice or in the few minutes Prather was able to play, but now healthy and understanding his role off the bench, he is giving the Gators what they need — energy and athleticism.

Prather brings energy off the bench

The Gators don’t need points out of Casey Prather. Since the loss of forward Will Yeguete for the remainder of the regular season, Florida has needed Prather to bring energy and do the little things that made Yeguete invaluable. In the two games Yeguete has been out, Prather has posted a season-high 12 points in each of them, but that’s not where his true value to the Gators comes.

Florida Gators 69 – Kentucky Wildcats 52; Gators Win Convincingly Over Defending Champs

Prather's will helps replace Yeguete

Florida head coach Billy Donovan said Thursday that Casey Prather still wasn’t comfortable after returning from a high ankle sprain. He was timid in practice and tentative with the ball instead of the aggressive player that was creating a role for himself before the injury. A conversation with athletic trainer Duke Werner before Saturday’s game against Mississippi State changed that.
