Coltsider reviews 2003 draft
Kyle Rodriguez looks back at 2003's draft which brought the Colts three starters and two Classic Colts. The big win was Dallas Clark but don't forget they Colts bagged one of our favorites, Cato June, and one of the great clutch defensive players of his generation: Robert Mathis.
Mathis wasn’t a big need, and he likely could have lasted longer, although I don’t know...

Pay attention, it matters
The UFL is in trouble.
Okay, so there aren’t any “facts” or “stats” to back that up, but attention to detail, in any business is important. Often times, a business’ success can be measured by how well it does the little things.
Things like, fact checking.
I was talking with a former colleague of mine, Brandon Williams. We were laughing about the...

The Champ Speaks
We ran two contests this year at 18to88.com. One was the ESPN Pigskin Pick 'Em. W. Tyler Michael won the league, going 143-113 against the spread. I finished second, a whopping 18 games behind him. Congrats to Mr. Michael who wins a copy of Blue Blood.
The other was the 18to88 Fantasy League. Ani Guri was our winner this year, and part of his prize is the chance to write...

REAR ENTRIES: A Snow Job Is Better Than No Job
OUR GM CAN BEAT UP YOUR GM: Ira Kaufman takes a break from, well, whatever the hell he’s normally doing or eating, and does a little bit of research into what some Bucs who have been released by this regime are doing these days. The answer: Very little. Some of the names include Derrick Brooks, Joey Galloway, Cato June, Ike Hilliard, Chris Hovan… well, you get the point...

Bucs Dodged Bullet With Albert Haynesworth
A little over a year ago most Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans were upset with Mark Dominik for not signing Albert Hanyesworth. Hanyesworth was a premier free agent defensive tackle and Bucs fans were still angry about the release of Derrick Brooks, Cato June, Warrick Dunn, Ike Hilliard and Joey Galloway.…

What to Expect-Pat Angerer
All week, I'll be running a "What to Expect" series. The goal of this series to create realistic expectations for the Colts draft picks based on historical performance from similar players. Too often fans think of young players as 'busts' if they don't produce their rookie years, when the reality is that most rookies don't produce right away...

A Decade of Drafting-2003
Due to popular request, I'm expanding my look at the Colts' drafts to include some other teams. Each day, we'll look how the Colts, Steelers, Patriots, Eagles and Ravens drafted this decade. We'll start with the year 2000. I'm ranking the teams based on this criteria: would you trade one entire draft for another? The team whose draft you would...

Inside job: Teams make good calls retaining these five free agents
Dennis Dillon
The ripest fruit doesn't always grow on your neighbor's tree. Sometimes it's best to pick from your own vines.
On the opening day of free agency last week, while the Bears signed former Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers, the Lions corralled former Tennessee defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, the Jets traded for San Diego cornerback Antonio...

Now We Have James Marten All To Ourselves
This is a little late, but my apathetic coma just subsided. Yesterday, the Bears cut linebacker Cato June (we hardly knew ye!) and promoted tackle James Marten from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Wait … Isn’t that the same James Marten that the Raiders so inconsiderately swooped from us last year? HA! Take [...]

June takes Tinoisamoa's number; Williams gets shot
LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- New Chicago Bears linebacker Cato June is on the practice field, and has been given Pisa Tinoisamoa's old number 59. Expect June to be active Sunday versus St. Louis, but it sounds like Jamar Williams may be given the first crack to replace Lance Briggs (in the event Briggs doesn't play) at weak-side linebacker.

June's value may be down the road
I don’t believe the newest Bear, linebacker Cato June, will make much of a contribution this season, even if Lance Briggs has to miss some time, which isn’t expected.
June hasn’t played football since fracturing his arm in the preseason, so it’s fair to assume that the Bears will not rush him back on the field unless injuries at linebacker become an epidemic. It makes more...
