Day One: The All-Region Reds Team
Have you ever wondered what MLB rosters would like if clubs were only able to choose players from their local area? I have, and it led me to the creation of the following series of posts. Over the next several days I'll break down a 25-man roster - position-by-position - of some current MLBers that hail from hometowns located in (or near) Reds country.
The main goal in making...

Nothing But Roses In The Dodgers' Future
Settle yourselves in for a long run of disappointment, Dodger fans; so says ESPN's Mark Cameron (link insider only):
With prospective owners lining up around the block to bid for the Los Angeles Dodgers, we thought it'd be helpful to shine a light on just what kind of team they'd be buying. While the franchise's history and large fan base offer value on their own...

My Chad Billingsley PC
I'm an unabashed Chad Billingsley fan. I had some time and finally decided to scan the autos and relics of Bills I have in my collection, as well as a pair of rookies. The first of my rookie autographs, and I'd love to one day put together this rainbow. The final of my Bills' rookie autos, and I was stoked to land all three for good deals. The fact that two of these rookie...

Holy ****, We Made Olney's Top Ten Rotations (Sort Of)
I'm on my iPhone so I can't post the insider-only link right now, but here's the text, in which the Dodgers end up with #10B:
10b. Los Angeles Dodgers Oh, sure, some of it's the park, and some of it's the division, and a whole lot of it is Clayton Kershaw, but the Dodgers ranked third in the majors in rotation ERA in 2011. Kershaw is probably the most coveted...

Dank(s) You Sir, May I Have Another Five Years?
How’s that for rebuilding? Just weeks after General Manager Kenny Williams announced the Chicago White Sox were starting from scratch, he has apparently signed John Danks to a five year $65 million contract extension. Even though Danks would have been a useful trade chip, Williams decided to lock up the 26-year-old lefty — proving, once again, that Kenny Williams is one...

Chad Billingsley, A Mixed Bag
Using 2010 and 2011 data and looking at K/9, BB/9 and GB/FB numbers I computed similarity scores for any starting pitcher who has thrown 150 or more innings the past two years. Out of the 158 qualified pitchers here are the pitchers with the most similar numbers to Chad Billingsley. There are a mixed bag of pitchers who have a similar skill set as Billingsley. A.J. Burnett is...

Looking Ahead to 2012
I have programmed up my simulator with the 2012 schedule and all of the updated trades and free agent signings (well at least the most significant ones). Still a little house keeping to do on updating my park factors and defensive ratings. Here is a preliminary look at how the simulator likes the 2012 Dodgers, including how it thinks the Dodgers will do on a month by month basis...

Dodgers, Harang Agree To Two-Year Deal
The Dodgers and Aaron Harang have agreed to a two-year deal worth roughly $12MM, according to Jon Heyman of the MLB Network (on Twitter).
Harang, 33, enjoyed a nice rebound campaign with his hometown Padres in 2011. The former Reds ace notched 170 2/3 innings, his highest total since 2008, while posting a solid ERA of 3.64, striking out 6.5 per nine, and walking 3.1 per nine....

Dodgers Winter Meetings Certain To Depress
Someone's got to send "Snow Miser" Ken Gurnick of MLB.com some chocolates, stat, because his preview of the Dodgers at the upcoming winter meetings is enough to make one want to end it all:
Regardless of what happens in the courts, the Dodgers face a challenge on the field. Even with Cy Young Award-winning Kershaw and MVP runner-up Kemp, there are questions that probably...

Is Chad Billingsley Worth His Contract?
By all accounts Chad Billingsley had a down year. After going 12-11 with a 3.57 ERA in 2010, the Dodgers signed him to a 3 year contract woth $35 million and an option for a 4th year in 2015 worth $14 mil.
His 2011 season where he went 11-11 with a 4.21 ERA may be worth the $6.275 mil he got last season but not the 2011 he will make in 2012 and he must step up.
If Hiroki Kuroda doesn...

Marlins, Blue Jays pursuing starters
As the pitching market turns…
The Marlins and Blue Jays are the teams most aggressively pursuing trades for starting pitchers, according to major-league sources.
The Marlins also were meeting with free-agent left-hander Mark Buerhle on Tuesday, but the competition to sign Buehrle is intense, sources say.

Thankfully (For Me), Russell Martin Autographs Don't Break The Bank.
Well, his Dodgers cards are still very affordable, for the most part. Those Yankee pinstripes are an entirely different story. Anyways, I was able to land this sweet Russell Martin 2009 Upper Deck Ballpark Collection Auto/Jersey Relic from the Bay recently. I also have the Chad Billingsley from this set, and still need to acquire the Matt Kemp. Not that it'll happen anytime soon...

2011 Los Angeles Dodgers Season Review: Rotation
In the second of this series, I review the Dodgers' starting rotation. It was projected to be one of the best in the National League pre-season and thanks to Clayton Kershaw, it was. However, Chad Billingsley's short-comings are worrisome and disappointing.RotationLHP Clayton Kershaw21-5, 2.28 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 6.7 H/9, 0.6 HR/9, 2.1 BB/9, 9.6 K/9, 4.59 K/BB, 163 ERA+- Kershaw was...

Potential Mets trading partner: Dodgers
It’s always nice to have someone worse off than you. For the Mets, we can always say – at least we’re not the Dodgers. Sure, the Dodgers won more games in 2011 and have bigger stars on the major league roster. But their ownership is a disaster, players seem unsure if they want to be there and the minor league system is unlikely to pump out four or five consecutive Rookie...

Game 153 Recap: Lincoln, Bucs Blasted by Dodgers
Lincoln was hit hard by Los Angeles
That was ugly. No question. The Dodgers bombed Pirate pitching for 15 runs and 23 hits. Chad Billingsley cruised through five leisurely innings while Brad Lincoln didn’t get out of the second inning.
Lincoln started off with a shaky first. Dee Gordon tripled to lead off. Jamey Carroll’s ground ball out scored him and the hope was that Lincoln...
