Quick Bits: Moeller Gone, Hughes Skipped
Here are a few quick items – all from Chad Jennings – on the evening:
Chad Moeller isn’t currently listed on the Yankees’ bench, meaning Colin Curtis is taking his place.
The Hughes Rules are finally beginning to come into focus a bit as Hughes’ next start will be skipped.
Such a move was inevitable, as the Yankees seek to manage Hughes’ innings...

Orioles: Moeller explained
Most of you probably know this already, but I thought I'd clarify the Chad Moeller situation for anyone who didn't get to the end of Jeff Zrebiec's story on the subject. The Orioles declined his $850,000 major league option yesterday, but that does not mean he will not return as Matt Wieters backup next season. In fact, I would guess that his return is fairly likely....

Orioles Trade for Julio Lugo; Moeller Released...
I thought this was an April Fools joke when I first heard of it, but it's very much true. It looks like the Orioles have made a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for a guy that knows the American League East all too well as they have traded for Julio Lugo. Remember, he spent the first part of his career with Tampa Bay, and also has spent time with the Red Sox. Although Lugo...

Yankees Notes: Moseley, Moeller, Cell Phones, and T-Shirts
The Yankees got beat up by the Mariners yesterday and things don’t look great today either as they have Javier Vazquez going up against King Felix Hernandez.
Here are some notes:
The Yankees have until tomorrow to decide to call-up RHP Dustin Moseley or let him opt-out. He has a 4-4 record and a 4.21 ERA in 12 starts.

First Group of September Callups on Their Way
Chad Jennings reported last night that he was hearing that Greg Golson, Chad Moeller, and Jonathan Albaladejo were on their way to New York to be added to the newly expanded rosters. Someone has to be trimmed off the 40-man roster to make room for Moeller, but that shouldn't be an issue.

Update
Sources close to the A's tell me that their impression is that "Bard is not their top target" as a young catcher to acquire. Chad Moeller was mentioned in Susan Slusser's article as another option, though he really can't be considered young anymore. (He'll be 29 in February, a year older than Hernand...

Catcher Chad Moeller agreed to a minor league deal with the Orioles, according to Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. The Orioles had declined Moeller's $850K option, preferring to have him on a minor league contract. Zrebiec says Moeller will battle recent pickups Craig Tatum and Michel Hernandez for the chance to be Matt Wieters' backup.

Orioles: Mora, Moeller and Datz
Jeff Zrebiec has already posted stories on the long-expected decision by the Orioles to decline Melvin Mora's option for 2010 and also the choice of former Indians coach Jeff Datz as the new O's bench coach.
The club also declined the $850,000 option on catcher Chad Moeller and outrighted some guys to free up room on the 40-man roster. It's probably still possible...

His number this year were not exactly sparkling his season line is .218/.315/.381 but Big Sexy knows how to hit a home run with 11 on the season. Mark Melancon will head to Scranton to make room for Russo on the roster.Nick Swisher should be back in the lineup tonight, at least according to Chad Jennings, that seems to be the plan.It may have been missed with Moeller being called up, but earlier I mentioned that the Yankees signed 27-year-old second baseman Jeff Natale.

Activate Posada -> Send Russo Down -> DFA Moeller -> Call Up Curtis
The Yankees catcher Jorge Posada is probably coming off the DL today, but there is no clear choice of whom the Yankees will send down to the minors when they activate him.
It could be back-up catcher Chad Moeller, but because of the nature of Posada’s injury and the position he plays that’s probably not a smart idea. Especially as Posada is expected to DH through this...

Much to the disappointment of many, the Yankees called up Chad Moeller, and not Jesus Montero or Austin Romine to replace Jorge Posada and back up Francisco Cervelli.
