Charlie Batch not ready to retire just yet
Free agency quarterback Charlie Batch told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that he’s not ready to retire just yet.
“I’m not closing the door,” the former Steel Valley High star said. “I’m open to whatever is out there for me.”
Batch says he wouldn’t working in an NFL front office.
“I’d definitely be open to (Steelers GM) Kevin Colbert teaching me his job,” Batch...
Charlie Batch has no plans to retire
Charlie Batch is not planning to retire this offseason. The 38-year-old has served as a backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2003.
The Steelers were forced to turn to Batch last season after injuries struck starter Ben Roethlisberger and then backup Byron Leftwich. He will hope for a similar opportunity this season.
“I’m not closing the door,” said Batch to...
Best Available NFL Free Agent Quarterbacks
The draft is over now and some of the rookies are starting to sign their contracts. This year's draft was not loaded with quarterback talent and with teams still looking for a potential starter or backup it's time for some of these guys to try and find a team. Now I'm not saying these guys are going to be stars but a few can be quality backup starters and even possibly...
Speculative QB Options For The Jets
Rich Cimini of ESPN New York takes a look at some of the available free agent quarterbacks and how they would fit with the Jets now that David Garrard has retired.
Charlie Batch
Batch, 38, is a veteran quarterback who’s familiar with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’ system. Despite having some success in recent years while filling in Ben Roethlisberger, it’s hard...
Steelers could have selected the best quarterback in the draft
Landry Jones could be this years draft steal. In the past few years Big Ben has been rattled by injuries that left quartebacks Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich coming in to take over. With that being said the four year starter at Oklahoma fell into a wonderful spot.
Landry will compete with Byron Leftwich for the back up spot. I believe that Landry will shine in camp and if an injury...
I Don’t Think Charlie Batch is Done Just Yet
Many of you won’t want to hear this for a variety of reasons but I’m going to say it anyway. I don’t think Charlie Batch is completely done yet with the Pittsburgh Steelers. I understand that you want nothing to do with a guy who is closer to his AARP card than his rookie year, but take an objective look at things and you’ll see where I’m going.
Yesterday on my weekly appearance...
2013 NFL Draft Aftermath: Will Charlie Batch Be a Casualty?
Rewind to the third day of the 2013 NFL Draft… Commissioner Roger Goddell approaches the podium, takes a breath, and announces, “With the 115th pick of the NFL Draft, The Pittsburgh Steelers pick Landry Jones, Quarterback, University of Oklahoma!”(OK, so maybe the Commish was at home chillin’ during the fourth round of the draft… You get the idea…)With the utterance of...
Charlie Batch Feels Landry Jones Was Drafted To Eventually Replace Ben Roethlisberger
The Pittsburgh Steelers' selection of quarterback Landry Jones in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft signified the end for veteran backup Charlie Batch.
Batch, who has been with the Steelers for Ben Roethlisberger's entire career, felt there were other underlying motivations for the team's decision to draft a young quarterback.
"Ultimately, I think this...
Charlie Batch Thinks There Is More To The Steelers Drafting Landry Jones Than Meets The Eye
In a recent article by Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch weighed in on his former team signing backup Bruce Gradkowski this offeseason and drafting Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones in the fourth-round of the 2013 NFL draft this past weekend. Batch indicated that he thinks that the Steelers drafting of Jones goes "much...
Charlie Batch: Steelers will groom Landry Jones as their eventual starter
The Pittsburgh Steelers needed a backup quarterback so they went and got one.
Oklahoma’s Landry Jones brings youth to the spot that has been held down by a series of aging veterans that can no longer get it done.
One of which has come out to state that Jones is not only removing him from his spot, he may remove starter Ben Roethlisberger from his eventually.

Steelers rumors: Landry Jones as Ben Roethlisberger’s eventual replacement?
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected quarterback Landry Jones in
the fourth round of last weekend’s NFL Draft. The pick likely indicates that
veteran backup Charlie Batch no longer has a roster spot with the team, but he
believes it could mean more. Batch told Ron Cook of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
that Jones could be the Steelers’ heir apparent behind starting quarterback Ben
Roethlisberger...
Batch believes the Steelers may want to groom Landry Jones to replace Roethlisberger
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that’s it’s possible that the Steelers drafted Landry Jones to take over for Ben Roethliserger at some point.
“Maybe they weren’t happy with what they had behind Ben and Bruce. That could be. But ultimately, I think this isn’t about replacing me. Big picture, maybe they’re thinking,...
Charlie Batch: Can we develop Landry Jones to be the starter?
(Credit: NBC Sports)
The Pittsburgh Steelers had an excellent 2013 NFL Draft. Three of their picks, LB Jarvis Jones, RB LeVeon Bell, and WR Markus Wheaton will be expected to come right in and produce, at least situationally. In the fourth round, the Steelers selected QB Landry Jones. Jones was highly regarded after his 2011 season at Oklahoma, then had a down 2012 season. Well...

Charlie Batch and Derrick Dockery are among 23 current and former NFL players who will take part in a sports journalism symposium next month.

The program will focus on improving each player's writing skills for print, broadcast and digital...
Steelers’ Selection of Landry Jones is a Head Scratcher
There is no question the Pittsburgh Steelers needed to accomplish something whether through the late rounds of the NFL Draft or in signing undrafted free agent players. That ‘something’ was to find a younger back-up quarterback for Ben Roethlisberger as Byron Leftwich is out of the picture and with Charlie Batch being somewhere near the age of gaining his AARP card.
The Steelers...
Based on Colbert’s Comments 2013 Will be Ben Roethlisberger’s First Year Without Charlie Batch on the Sidelines
Pittsburgh Steelers GM Kevin Colbert after drafting Oklahoma quarterback in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft today said that they are comfortable with the four quarterbacks currently on the roster. That means Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwich are not expected to be back in 2013. That also means for the first time in his NFL career Ben Roethlisberger will not have Batch on the...
BIG BEN'S HEIR?
Steelers to draft a quarterback?
Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert reportedly said the team is open to the possibility of selecting a quarterback in this year's draft.
Drafting a QB is a Wasted Pick for the Steelers
One of the more interesting debates during this 2013 NFL off-season has been whether or not the Pittsburgh Steelers are rebuilding or reloading. I no longer believe teams rebuild int eh NFL anymore simply because free agency has been around long enough now to that point where teams should have an understanding how it works and how you can use it to plug holes.
One of the areas that...
Steelers GM Kevin Colbert Still Open To Bringing Back QB Charlie Batch In 2013
Bob Labriola reports Sunday via Twitter that Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert has said that the team still hasn't ruled out bringing back unrestricted free agent quarterback Charlie Batch despite the signing of unrestricted free agent quarterback Bruce Gradkowski this past week.
Batch has made it known several times during the off-season that he is interested...
Steelers Sign Gradkowski; Release Willie Colon
The Pittsburgh Steelers today signed QB Bruce Gradkowski to a three-year deal. The Pittsburgh native and former Toledo Rocket will be the back-up to Ben Roethlisberger with Charlie Batch likely in his 3rd-string/coach role.
Gradkowski has played in 37 games in his 7 year career and has thrown 21 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. His record as a starter is 6-14.
My take: In a free...
Report: Steelers Bringing In Bengals Free Agent QB Bruce Gradkowski For Visit
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports via Twitter on Tuesday that Cincinnati Bengals free agent quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is scheduled to visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.
The Steelers appear to be ready to move on from either Byron Leftwich or Charlie Batch, both unrestricted free agents, this off-season. Batch reiterated recently that he hopes to return in 2013, but...
Charlie Batch Is Planning 2013 Return To Steelers
Apparently, Charlie Batch expects to be with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013, because he told Tim Benz and Bob McLaughlin of WXNX in Pittsburgh he had little reason to believe he wouldn't.
Nevermind the fact he is no longer under contract. According to Batch:
"My plan is to come back, and I haven't heard anything differently from the organization. And I think when...
