Two hitting coaches a real hit with Jones
Some people think third baseman Chipper Jones doesn't really need a hitting coach. He has abundant natural talent, after all, not to mention that his dad, who was always his hitting coach, can spot any flaws by watching on TV.
And he has nearly two decades of major league experience behind him.
But Jones enjoys talking about hitting, so the more people he can discuss it with...

Rejuvenated Jones exactly what Braves need
In some ways, Chipper Jones is acting his age, which is exactly what the Atlanta Braves need.
In other ways, Jones is a kid again, which also is exactly what they need.
Listen to what the old Jones says about working with Jason Heyward. Hes full of wisdom and advice, sounding like a hitting coach as he describes swings and mechanics.
Watch him hold court in the clubhouse, the...

Chipper Jones may play two more years after telling the media that as long as he stays healthy, he will wait for his body to tell him when it is time to retire. The Atlanta Braves third baseman and former National League Most Valuable Player, who will turn 40-years-old during the first month of the 2012 MLB season, has said that this year may not be the start of his farewell tour...

MLB Predictions: Breaking Down the 2012 Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves were a playoff team in 2011 until the final day of the season when they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies then were eliminated by the St Louis Cardinals in a one game playoff. After having a 9 1/2 game lead for the Wild Card on August 25th, the Braves blew their lead. There was good news for Atlanta though. Craig Kimbrel emerged as a closer and won the Rookie of...

Players to Celebrate in 2012: Chipper Jones
Baseball is, among all major sports, the game most suited for reflection. Thirty teams play 162 games a season and that's a lot of baseball. The game is also one most tied to the fabric of generations as children play catch with parents and inherit team loyalty and a love of the game. Whether you are young or old, there have been players we've watched who have built a body of work...

The Atlanta Braves have unveiled a new alternate home uniform that is based on the attire worn when the team moved from Milwaukee in 1966.
The Braves held a ceremony Monday for Chipper Jones, Brian McCann and Dan Uggla to model the new look. Hank Aaron was also on hand.
The cream-colored uniforms feature the customary Braves script across the front, but without the tomahawk that...

Outing the Fake Chipper on Twitter
There is guy posing as Chipper Jones on Twitter and it cracks me up. Spurred on by my wife’s addiction to Chipper, I collected my thoughts (and proof) as to why it’s not really Chipper tweeting. There are a few simple facts that alone should be enough for most to know it’s not really Chipper Jones tweeting.
Note: All of the embedded tweets have foreign navigation...

Chipper likely to undergo MRI exam
Chipper Jones slumped in his chair.
"I feel like I'm 50," he said late Monday night.
Jones, 39, was referring to the lower half of his body -- and specifically, his troublesome right knee.
Jones, the Braves' third baseman, told FOXSports.com that he likely will undergo an MRI exam on the knee Tuesday, but fully intends to play in the team's final two games...

A brief analysis of the Braves new jersey press conference
The Atlanta Braves introduced new alternate jerseys today, which is their third alternate jersey (and fifth overall) that the team wears in game action. That doesn't include their batting practice/spring training jersey. But enough about the inane concept of making another jersey. The press conference that the jerseys were introduced during was laughable in its own right.

No Place for Nostalgia in Fantasy
When talking about fantasy baseball, there is nothing more insidious than the memory of a great player. When looking the TRI projections that have come down the pike so far, there is a disturbing trend of great players that suddenly don’t look so great. Some of those came as a surprise while others have been showing the effects of age for quite some time. This is nowhere more...

Why You Shouldn’t Be Excited About Spring Training
Mariners Pitchers and Catchers reported to camp yesterday and Spring Training is just around the way. Most teams report back next week and there’s much to be excited about. To borrow from David O’brien at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, who writes the best Braves blog out there:
“The one thing that’s notably different about baseball spring training and other...

Losing is a Disease, and the Braves Have It
“The mind is a strange thing, men. We must begin by asking it ‘What is losing?’ Losing is a disease as contagious as polio…Losing is a disease as contagious as syphilis…Losing is a disease as contagious as bubonic plague, attacking one, but infecting all. But curable.”
Just as it plagued Roy Hobbs and...

Braves Notebook: Chipper may play beyond 2012
One thing to keep in mind about the Braves' search for a veteran shortstop to back up starter-apparent Tyler Pastornicky, and the various combinations of infielder and outfielder trade rumors: Third baseman Chipper Jones will not necessarily be retiring at the end of the 2012 season.
Yes, he will turn 40 in April. But the standard for next year is the same as it was for the last...

NL East: A Fascinating Place: Braves
Yesterday began a new series on the National League East, a division that has dramatically evolved during the off season. The series began, of course, with the Phillies. The Phillies are still the top dog until some team rises and knocks them off their perch. Could that team be the Atlanta Braves? Not if it is last year's Braves who never looked as good as the Phillies. And certainly...

Jones, Braves take it on the chin
Chipper Jones knows he doesn't have too many more trips to the playoffs left in his career.
He's not letting this one slip away without a fight and is hoping to pull the Braves along with him.
That's what made his eighth-inning-ending 4-6-3 double play grounder off Philadelphia Phillies reliever Brad Lidge even more disappointing.
To that point, Jones, who managed just three hits...

Best Value Players At Each Position 1992-2011, Part 2
Last week, in Part 1, I set out my criteria for “best value players” and selected the pitcher, catcher, first baseman, and second baseman that, in my view, best met those criteria in the twenty seasons from 1992 to 2011.
Today, in Part 2, I select the “best value players” at shortstop, third base, left field, center field, and right field over the same twenty...
