Ozzie's ready; Grind Line set for Wings-Leafs alumni game
Kris Draper joked with Kirk Maltby about reuniting on the ice. Chris Osgood, meanwhile, is believed to be in search of his goaltending equipment.

Rumor: NHL may be destined to relocate Phoenix Coyotes to Seattle, and why it’s a brilliant move
Seattle has been home to the Western Hockey League’s Thunderbirds since 1985.
The hockey faithful have had the opportunity to see the development of top talent, such as Patrick Marleau, Tim Hunter and Chris Osgood.
With the rumors out that the Phoenix Coyotes could relocate to Seattle, there’s a very good chance for professional hockey to be revived in a viable market...

Strength and Weakness
Every team has its strengths just as every team has its weaknesses. Some teams have a more glaring weakness **cough cough CHICAGO GOALTENDING cough cough** and some teams have a more prevalent strength...like Detroit's ability to play the game of hockey on home ice.I don't think heading into the season that Detroit would ever think that its powerplay would be one of those key weaknesses...

This Day In Hockey History (1/10)
I think on This Day today a coaching debut would be perfect considering the six degrees of Columbus as Todd Richards makes his debut tonight. As we all know, this is a business and there is always a winner and a loser. That is why today we went with another coach who debuted on this day just 15 years ago. This coach won a Stanley Cup and has made a few stops on the NHL Coaching...

Underrated Nation: Mike Vernon
We at The Hockey Guys are pleased to bring back a very successful weekly series feature called Underrated Nation. Writer, fan and NHL history aficionado Bill Kellett will focus on a different NHL’er every week in our Underrated Nation segment’s, seen only on The Hockey Guys.

NHL Trends: Why the NHL Is No Longer a Goaltender's League
When I started watching hockey around the age of 12 I remember settling into my parents living room for a lot of NHL playoff match ups. This was before the days of NHL Center Ice, so regular season games were few and far between unless you could catch them on ESPN.
But playoff hockey was on the air and I would get thoroughly excited to watch any teams compete for the Stanley...

All the Red Wings want for Christmas is, well, Christmas
Despite suggestions to the contrary, the Detroit Red Wings’ organization and players are pretty flexible in terms of accommodating requests from the NHL to engage in the kinds of promotional activities which involve playing on holidays or sloughing through particularly nasty travel schedules to give the league a TV ratings boost, but the Wings have consistently stated that there...

MEN BEHIND THE MASKS
Video: The 10 best goalie fights of all-time
Goalies don't usually fight unless all ten skaters are tangled up in extra-curricular activities. Goalie fights are usually awkward. They're slow to develop. And, they're awesome. We've amassed what we believe at the ten best hockey goalie fights in the history of the internet. Remember this when you want to drop the gloves with the putz who'll steal your...

Gameday 31 - Red Wings
Detroit Red Wings (18-9-1) @ Pittsburgh Penguins (17-9-4)
7:00 pm/et
TV: ROOT, FS-D
CONSOL Energy Center
We hated the Red Wings back in 2008 and 2009. Now... not so much. Maybe it's because the Penguins rarely play them. Maybe it's because people like Chris Osgood and Kris Draper are no...

The Detroit Goalie Conundrum
With the recent play of Jimmy Howard, and struggles of Ty Conklin I began to think about an article I wrote awhile back on Chris Osgood and his tenure with the Red Wings. Click the Jump for more
It seems to take a special type of person to play in goal for Detroit, while the Cheveldae's, Joseph's and Legace's have tried, only one has not succumbed to the presure...

Comparing the Comparables
The Red Wings are on fire and for the first time since 2008 I can watch a game where the opposing team scores first, or takes the lead and I don't immediately curl up in the fetal position and pray to the hockey gods that we don't get any further behind. Detroit is playing the game akin to what we expect, and it's looking more and more like 2008 all over again.Click the jump...

Han-D’men
Han-D’men
The only other team with a better record in November than the St. Louis Blues was the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins. Why? One of the primary reasons is coach Hitchcock’s implementation of a fast moving defense. When moving the puck out of the defensive zone, it is imperative that the defensemen have a good angle to either pass the puck or bank it off the boards...

this just in: capitals still fat
Hello, friends.
Every time the Pens play the Caps, it turns into a Big Deal.
A lot of people have had a lot of things to say about the decline and fall of Bruce Boudreau, and even though I'm not a huge fan of the guy, I'm not about to rag on him too much here. I hope he finds success in Anaheim.
I'll pour out some wing sauce for you, Bruce.
But while Boudreau...

Suter or Later You Will Be Ours
Right off the bat I would like to wish a happy birthday to Chris Osgood, and say thanks for all he has done for the Wings and the fans over the years. Now lets get down to business. It is unclear if Jimmy Howard will be making his 15th consecutive start tonight as the the Wings host the Predators, or if Ty Conklin will get the nod. Backup goaltending seems to be the one weak spot...

"Detroit Fans Don't Know Goaltending"
Our latest article was linked on Puck Daddy yesterday. Yet, as usual, when it is anyone other than Greg Wysh from Puck Daddy, they included their usual hate on Wings fans. This time is was some new guy, Harrison Mooney, who's like a really poor man's Ryan Lambert:
Nightmare on Helm Street thinks Jimmy Howard, who was just named the NHL’s second star of the week, is...

Paying The Big-Time Goalie
from Joe Haggerty of CSNNE, There’s no denying Rinne’s big-bucks deal became an easier sell for an executive like Poile after watching the cheap route on goaltending go belly up around the league after it was in vogue only a year or two ago. Instead it is the combination of superb goaltending from Thomas along with a hearty defense and hard-working offense that have become...

Video: Watch Hannu Toivonen allow goal from opposing blue line
Move over Vesa Toskala, Roman Turek, Dan Cloutier, Chris Osgood, and Osgood again ... and one more from Ozzie along with others, because former NHLer Hannu Toivonen has joined the undesirable club of goaltenders who've let in shots from way, way too far out.
During Wednesday's HockeyAllsvenskan derby match against Rogle, Toivonen -- who signed a 2-year deal with Malmo over the...

A little Wing wobble
Why are the Red Wings a big “Work in Progress,” and why has their collective play dropped off so significantly after a 5-and-0 start? Going into tonight’s game against the Wild, it seems like the Wings’ players aren’t just on “different pages”—they’re on different chapters of their team’s new playbook, if they’ve read it at all, and I think I know why: after...

Pittsburgh Penguins Built for the New NHL
The Penguins have unparalleled strength at center. Successful teams in the post-lockout NHL have to be strong up the middle.2004-2005. The average Joe might just look at these years as a “pretty good time” or “those were the days.” But for the diehard hockey fan, it was seven to eight months of pain and dispair (get ready NBA followers).A full season of what we live for was...

The Detroit Red Wings are getting older, but expectations haven't lessened for one of the NHL's most storied - and successful - franchises.
Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators hope a former Detroit assistant can help them bounce back from a disappointing season.

“Talking Hockey with Adrian Dater” podcast debut
Long story short: this podcast was supposed to be posted late last night, but assorted technical issues prevented it from happening. I was only up until 4 in the morning trying to deal with it too, so it was a real fun time.
Anyway, I promised a podcast for the coming season and here is the debut. I’m going to call it “Talking Hockey” for now. Thank you in advance for kudos...
