Mets Could Bring Chris Young Back
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, confirmed that Mets GM Sandy Alderson would be interested in bringing back right-handed pitcher Chris Young under the right circumstances and most likely only on a minor league deal.
Last month on a conference call with reporters, Alderson said he had recently met with Young in San Diego: “He’s the kind of guy we might re-sign under the right circumstances...

Mets open to bringing back RHP Chris Young
Sandy Alderson tells ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that the Mets are open to bringing back right-hander Chris Young, likely on a minor league contract. Young made just four starts for the Mets last year before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery, but he tells Crasnick that he hopes to be pitching by April and his "arm feels the best it has felt in quite some time" (both Twitter links).

Not enough Starting Pitching depth
Last year the rotation was the most stable it has been in years, aside from the starting five only four other pitchers made starts (D.J.Carrasco, Chris Young, Chris Schwinden, Miguel Batista). That's not typical and I'm not talking about the Mets, that's league wide, you generally need at least eight starters to make it through a season. For example a truer reflection...

Mets Interested In Bringing Back Chris Young
Joel Sherman of the New York Post says that the Mets are open to bringing back right-hander Chris Young on a minor league contract.
Young, 32, posted a 1.88 ERA and 22/11 K/BB ratio over four starts with the Mets last season before undergoing surgery in May to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder and missing the rest of the season.
Young’s agent ran into Corey...

Revisiting the decision to sign Chris Young
News hit Monday that Chris Young “essentially” has the same shoulder injury that Johan Santana suffered. This means his 2011 season is likely over. Everyone knew that Young was a huge injury risk but we certainly hoped he would throw more than 24 IP before he was shut down for the season.
The Mets’ financial situation forced them to shop in the bargain basement rack of...

Roster Moves: Young To The DL, Mets Recall Misch
ESPN's Adam Rubin is now reporting that the Mets have placed SP Chris Young on the disabled list after he was unable to loosen up prior to last night's game. Since then, it was reported the Young has experienced tightness in the back of his throwing shoulder and over the course of the week, had received two cortisone shots to relieve the problem. We have come to learn,...

How will Mets fill their final roster needs?
At this point in the offseason, it looks like the Mets roster is mostly filled out. They do have two more holes they need to fill though; sixth starting pitcher and a utility infielder for the bench. They are not huge glaring holes, but that are positions that are important to fill if the Mets want to be successful in 2012.
With the question of Johan Santana’s health, it’s very...

Mets Gambled On Young And Rolled Snake Eyes
Considering how it began, you have to be satisfied with the Mets’ six-game homestand against the Giants and Dodgers. A split was about as good as could be expected, and that’s what the Mets got.
Perhaps the most significant development coming out of the homestand was Chris Young’s second appointment to the disabled list. He was a gamble signing to begin with, so this really...

Mets Do Due Dillon-Gence: Gee To Replace Injured Young In Rotation
The crushing, yet expected news came down late yesterday afternoon that the most reliable Mets pitcher this year, Chris Young, is most likely done for the season. It was reported that Y0ung has the same injury that has sidelined Johan Santana: an anterior capsule tear in shoulder. It is very likely Chris Young's season, as well as possibly his Mets career is over. That is a shame because Young

Chris Young Opts For Surgery, Out For Season
Mets right-hander Chris Young has opted for surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder. Young was considering whether to go through a second non-surgical rehabilitation program as he did last year.
Mets assistant general manager John Ricco confirmed today that the scheduled operation is most likely season-ending.
Young signed an incentive-laden one-year deal...

Mets Likely Lose TWO Starters for the Season
Sad news for the Mets today as they released the information that pitcher Chris Young was diagnosed with a tear of the anterior capsule in his shoulder, essentially the same injury that has kept Johan Santana sidelined since last September. Young is left with two options, surgery or rehab. Rehab may put him back in the rotation toward the end of the season, but at at that point...

Chris Young Was A Good Risk, Well Worth Taking
I wanted to update this with some great information from analyst/statistician/Met historian Mark Simon at ESPN who writes,
Young’s 1.88 ERA would be the best overall mark for any Mets pitcher who made at least four starts with the team. In single-season annals, it’s topped only by Dwight Gooden’s 1.53 ERA in 1985, Mike Birkbeck’s 1.63 ERA in four starts in 1995 and Tom...

Was Chris Young worth it...
Photo by Michael BaronChris Young has been placed on the disable list for the second time and the season is barely a month old. I've heard several negative comments about the Young signing; same ole Mets signing, waste of time and they should have seen this coming. Set aside our opinions on the off-season approach, if we accept the fact that they were only spending what they...

Would You Bring In Brandon Webb On A Minor League Deal?
As I was looking over the free agent list of remaining available pitchers someone caught my eye. Do you remember Brandon Webb? He is still available and would come extremely cheap. If we are open to bringing back injury riddled Chris Young, why would we not be open to bringing in the injury plagued Webb?
He is currently rehabbing from a second rotator cuff surgery, but why not...

Harden has surgery out for season...
For those of us concerned with pitching depth, Rich Harden seemed like a viable alternative. He's a guy who has battled injuries making his cost reasonable but with a much higher ceiling then any of the other remaining free agents. Couple that with his familiarity with the front office and it seems to make as much sense as Chris Young. Unfortunately for Harden and to a lesser...
