Not enough Starting Pitching depth
Last year the rotation was the most stable it has been in years, aside from the starting five only four other pitchers made starts (D.J.Carrasco, Chris Young, Chris Schwinden, Miguel Batista). That's not typical and I'm not talking about the Mets, that's league wide, you generally need at least eight starters to make it through a season. For example a truer reflection...

Harden has surgery out for season...
For those of us concerned with pitching depth, Rich Harden seemed like a viable alternative. He's a guy who has battled injuries making his cost reasonable but with a much higher ceiling then any of the other remaining free agents. Couple that with his familiarity with the front office and it seems to make as much sense as Chris Young. Unfortunately for Harden and to a lesser...

LHBs with connection to the front office
I know for some this is a repetitive topic, but let's face there is absolutely nothing to talk about in regard to the Mets. It's amazing how little they done and how long it's been, the last signing was Ronny Cedano on January 12th. They haven't even signed anyone to a minor league deal with an invitee to camp, Tuiasosopo will go straight to minor league camp....

Would You Bring In Brandon Webb On A Minor League Deal?
As I was looking over the free agent list of remaining available pitchers someone caught my eye. Do you remember Brandon Webb? He is still available and would come extremely cheap. If we are open to bringing back injury riddled Chris Young, why would we not be open to bringing in the injury plagued Webb?
He is currently rehabbing from a second rotator cuff surgery, but why not...

Mets open to bringing back RHP Chris Young
Sandy Alderson tells ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that the Mets are open to bringing back right-hander Chris Young, likely on a minor league contract. Young made just four starts for the Mets last year before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery, but he tells Crasnick that he hopes to be pitching by April and his "arm feels the best it has felt in quite some time" (both Twitter links).

Mets Could Bring Chris Young Back
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, confirmed that Mets GM Sandy Alderson would be interested in bringing back right-handed pitcher Chris Young under the right circumstances and most likely only on a minor league deal.
Last month on a conference call with reporters, Alderson said he had recently met with Young in San Diego: “He’s the kind of guy we might re-sign under the right circumstances...

If not Francis it will be someone...
On Friday it was reported that the Mets along with three other teams were interested in Jeff Francis. I like Francis because he's a lefty and I believe he's better then his numbers indicated last year. Unconnected to the rumored market heating up, Fangraph did a piece on Francis basically saying despite solid peripherals he's going to need solid defense with an 85mph fastball...

NY Mets: The Latest Team News, Or Lack Of
Anonymous Met goes off?
I saw this article earlier in the week but didn’t do anything with it. I wasn’t sure if it needed to be said. We all know how dysfunctional the Mets are now. This article is claiming a Met and not an office person is saying this or at least that’s how the headline reads. And they posted a picture of Pelfrey who is the introspective kind of guy who might...

How will Mets fill their final roster needs?
At this point in the offseason, it looks like the Mets roster is mostly filled out. They do have two more holes they need to fill though; sixth starting pitcher and a utility infielder for the bench. They are not huge glaring holes, but that are positions that are important to fill if the Mets want to be successful in 2012.
With the question of Johan Santana’s health, it’s very...

A look at the New York Mets pitching staff
I think the rotation is solid for lack of a better word. Not great but not bad.
Johan Santana is a question mark because almost no one comes back from the surgery he had. Chien Ming Wang may be the first if he can continue at his pace. Chris Young couldn’t. Jake Peavy has to a point but he still visits the DL often. The problem is that he was always injury prone so it’s hard...

Mets Interested In Bringing Back Chris Young
Joel Sherman of the New York Post says that the Mets are open to bringing back right-hander Chris Young on a minor league contract.
Young, 32, posted a 1.88 ERA and 22/11 K/BB ratio over four starts with the Mets last season before undergoing surgery in May to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder and missing the rest of the season.
Young’s agent ran into Corey...

Mets interested in re-signing Chris Young
Joel Sherman of the New York Post says Sandy Alderson is interested in re-signing RHP Chris Young to a minor-league contract.
Young, 32, made just four starts for the Mets in 2011 before requiring shoulder surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his throwing shoulder in May. He went 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in 24 innings in 2011.

Alderson wants Young back...

For The Win
The Mets have already won the offseason. Why? Jonathan Broxton is a Kansas City Royal.Maybe the Mets were never the lead dog for this big dog, but any connection between the Mets and Broxton, no matter how small, was enough to bring chills up my spine. A lot of the conversation about the Royals' $4 million contract for Broxton centered around the price. Was it too much? Does four...

MMO Fan Shot: Smart Spending, Saving Money and Long Term Planning
It is said over and over again that the problem with the Mets is a combination of financial difficulties coupled with unwise spending and negligence in development of youth needed to build a winning franchise. There is some truth in all of this the only question seems to be in the perception of how bad and how much applies to each argument.
In the case of Bad contracts the usual...

Email Q&A, pres. by Citi: Why not sign pitching?
Peter G sent in an e-mail asking: “For the same money (as it would cost the Mets to sign Jose Reyes) they could potentially sign Mark Buehrle and Heath Bell. Also there is a good chance they could sign them to three-year deals. As much as everyone loves Reyes, the Mets aren’t going anywhere until they get some better pitching. In the short and potentially long run, isn’t...

Mets Fans Need to Brace for a Very Long 2012
At the start of 2011, I remarked that a return to the 79-83 mark of the 2010 campaign would be a remarkable achievement for this past season's edition of the Metros. The Mets fell short, but I still give Terry Collins credit for the job he did. His team was decimated by injuries and still played hard for the lion's share of the season. I'm beginning to come to the stark...
