The Washington Nationals continue to make roster reductions as they inch a day closer to Opening Day.
So far today, the Nats have send pitchers Matt Purke, Clay Hensley and Danny Rosenbaum to minor league camp. Rosenbaum will no doubt end up at Syracuse AAA. Purke is a big prospect pitcher for the Nats that we will keep a close eye on.
Purke is a 6’4″ left-hander the Nats...

Here is the Louisville Bats official roster, at least as of 10am this morning when the Bats sent it out.
Wilkin De La Rosa
The Reds picked up a new catcher, Konrad Schmidt, to take place of Miguel Olivo who asked for and was granted his release. Schmidt had been with Texas earlier this spring but signed with the Reds on Sunday. He hit .214/.214/.500 with Texas this spring in 14 at bats. The 28-year-old had spent the last two season in AAA where he has hit .282/.336/.432 while throwing out 27% of attempted...
The Reds pulled their spring training record down to 5-13 yesterday with a loss to the Mariners. Homer Bailey gave up 3 runs (earned) on 6 hits over 4.0 innings of work, but left the game with a sizeable lead. Seattle did their coming back on Clay Hensley who pitched the next 2.0 innings and gave up 4 runs (earned) on 3 hits and a walk. He also struck out five, for what...
Michael Morse made the Mariners out of camp five years ago thanks to big offensive production in spring training. Now he's back, and even though he's a big league regular, he's still having another fruitful spring for Seattle.
Morse hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead the Mariners back from a six-run deficit for an 8-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds Thursday...

Zack Cozart got the Reds a very short-lived lead in the first. The Cincinnati Reds continued their losing ways yesterday, dropping their 10th Spring Training game to the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2.
Johnny Cueto started and pitched well. Over three innings, he allowed one run on one hit and struck out four.
Overall, the pitching wasn’t as bad as the 7-spot makes it look. The defense...
Clay Hensley shows off his soft-cloth tossing lefty skills.
Broxton is making closer money, but will he hold the closer's role all season?
Today we take a look at the Cincinnati bullpen
entering the 2013 season. There's a lot of solid names here and only so many spots to go around. The 'pen is undoubtedly where the hardest decisions of the spring will come for the front office.
Key Losses: None of last year’s...
So the Reds played their first spring game of the year yesterday against the Indians in Goodyear. It started well and ended poorly from a results standpoint, but results don’t really matter right now. The pitching in the game resembles a Louisville box score from three months from now with the exception of Contreras. The names were there, but the results weren’t. Tony Cingrani...
I'm back just to comment on a few things surrounding Reds baseball over the past few weeks. I did this at the end of last month too and called it Playing Pepper. As I work out what name I'll continue to use for these types of posts, I'm going to call it "Touching Base" today. You know, because that's what you do in baseball sometimes and it also means...
Today is the day that the San Francisco Giants must tender contracts to their arbitration eligible players. The deadline is at 9 p.m. Pacific Time.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle (via Twitter) believes the Giants will tender contracts to everyone except Brian Wilson. Below is the arbitration eligible players.
In the final installment of this series, we’ll take a look at some of the relievers that may be available for the Pirates this offseason.
This piece of the series is the hardest to forecast, as the sheer number of relievers on the various fronts of the market coupled with the inherently volatile nature of relievers, makes it difficult to pair a player with a team.
Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com says San Francisco Giants GM Brian Sabean can guarantee that Hunter Pence will be with the Giants in 2013. However, Sabean can’t make the same guarantee for Brian Wilson. “Pence is going to be coming back,” said Sabean. “We think there are some things he can do to fix what went wrong this year. We like the player. We made a big trade to get him...
When we last left injured San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson, he was playing the organ on the hat of one of his teammates, Clay Hensley. Tonight he decided to expand the fun to include two teammates and switched to the drums.
As Joe Buck notes, that’s tomorrow night’s starter Matt Cain on the left, while Hensley reprises his appearance as straight man and Wilson even works...
August 4, 2007 marks performance enhanced historical moments when Barry Bonds hit his 755th homer to tie Hank Aaron as the all-time leader in that category. Bonds belted his opposite-field homer off Clay Hensley of the Padres at PETCO Park in San Diego. Ironically, Hensley had been suspended for steroid use in 2005. In a move of pure class, Hank Aaron video taped a personal message...
Last night during the game, Jon Miller and Duane Kuiper were talking about Clay Hensley‘s season. Specifically, they were talking about the fact that Hensley to this point has been better against left-handed hitters than right-handed hitters. Looking over Hensley’s career, he actually has been slightly better against southpaws than righties. Which means that in the Giants bullpen...
Bye, bye baby.
Coming into the series the Giants had a season total of 31 home runs, good enough for 29th in the league. 30Th? The Padres, of course, with 30. So color me surprised when the Giants go to Petco and score 5,6, and 8 runs on 13, 11, 15 hits, respectively. And a diminutive non-roster spring training invitee who had two home runs in 836 career plate appearances has two...
SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants scored three runs in the first inning and went on to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-2 on Monday afternoon. Barry Zito pitched seven solid innings, allowing seven hits and two runs with three strikeouts for his third win in May. Clay Hensley pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Santiago Casilla worked out of a one-out jam with the tying...
