Oakland Athletics managing general partner Lew Wolff recently expressed at least a passing interest in perhaps signing Manny Ramirez after the slugger serves a 50-game suspension for a positive PED test.

After analyzing the trades made by the Dayton Moore regime with the Kansas City Royals in 2006 and 2007, we now take a look at the deals made in 2008.
As we mentioned in the first column of this series, there are three phases to “The Process”, as Dayton Moore likes to refer to the Royals journey toward building a championship-caliber team. The Royals have completed...

Seth Smith traded to the Athletics
The Oakland Athletics found the last piece to their outfield puzzle when they acquired Seth Smith from the Colorado Rockies for Josh Outman and Guillermo Moscoso. The deal wraps up a whirlwind couple of weeks where the Athletics brought back Coco Crisp and replaced both Josh Willingham and David Dejesus. However, the cost this time may have been a little too much for what they got...

Pressing Questions: The Oakland A’s
In terms of fantasy talent, the A's are the "If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound?" analogy. If you and your friends decided to eliminate Oakland from the player pool for your '12 fantasy draft, more than likely you'd hardly notice that anything had changed. In early drafts charted on MockDraftCentral, there are...

The One Where We Discuss An Expensive Closer, Another DH, And Harbor Island
Off-Season (click image for random Wikipedia page)
The Rays may not be done adding relievers, and now they are setting their sight a bit higher.
According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Rays are one team that will become more active in pursuing former Phillies closer Ryan Madson if he has trouble finding the right deal and his price comes down.
Madson is reportedly seeking...

You Must’ve Been a Beautiful Baby (or at least a cute kid): Childhood Uni Photos, Vol. 2
Last month I ran some photos of a very young Mike Hersh wearing assorted Philadelphia uniforms and invited readers to submit their own embarrassing endearing childhood uni pics. A nice assortment of you accepted that invitation, so let’s take a look, beginning with this shot of Mike Colvin (which, like most of the photos in today’s entry, you can click to access a larger versionâ...

Oakland A’s Resign Coco Crisp
The Oakland A’s have completely lost their minds as they’ve signed Coco Crisp to an absurd 2 year deal worth right around 14 million dollars. Okay, maybe that’s not as bad as it sounds since it’s a club option at 7.5 million with a buyout of 1 million.
Coco Crisp? Really? They won’t pay Gio Gonzalez, but will pay Coco? Really? Oy Vey.
I can’t say I think this is a good...

Off-Season (click image for random Wikipedia page)
Earlier this week we wondered if there would be any lingering animosity between the Rays new reliever and the local media due to an ugly incident back in 2009.
Well, yesterday, Fernando Rodney called Marc Topkin to apologize about the incident.

ANDRES TORRES OVER COCO CRISP, NY METS GOT THE BETTER DEAL
Â
Â
When the Mets off season got under way one of the position I wanted to see an upgraded was center field. I had seen enough of Angel Pagan and it seems Sandy Alderson felt the same way. I was intrigued by Coco Crisp thinking he would be a nice cheap alternative to man the less spacious tundra of the center of the Citi Field outfield. Â Alderson felt the better man for the job...

Oakland Athletics Ink Coco Crisp
Yesterday, ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that the Athletics re-upped Coco Crisp with a 2-year deal worth at least $14 million. The deal will pay Crisp $6M in 2012, $7M in 2013, and includes a $7.5M team option for 2014. If the A’s decline to pick up the option, Crisp gets $1M.
Deals like this make me love the offseason. Some people hate this deal, while others love it. Personally...

Eternal Returns: Coco Crisp and Athletic Rebuilding
Not everyone from the 2011 Oakland Athletics is leaving town. Last night Buster Olney reported that the As had re-signed their center fielder from previous two seasons, Coco Crisp, to a two-year deal guaranteeing the 32-year old $14 million dollars with an option for a third season. Some may doubt whether Crisp is really worth the money, particularly given his health record, but...
