PHOENIX (AP) Expectations were minimal for the Grand Canyon Antelopes last season, entering their first year in Division I with new coach Dan Majerle and an untested roster. That won't be case this season.
Coming off a surprising third-place finish in the WAC, the Antelopes are facing much higher expectations.
''Last year, everyone kind of saw us as a team that's up and coming and...

Dan Majerle is currently the coach at Grand Canyon. The school's nickname is the Antelopes. An Antelope itself is swift and light on its feet.
So, that has to explain how the former Phoenix Suns star decided to show some of his fancy footwork as the school opened its practice Friday.
Check out these moves:
Not quite as smooth as the original.
Way back in the way back, back when I penned (digitally) a weekly NBA draft column for SLAM, I did a series of articles where I “remixed” NBA drafts from years past. With hindsight, how would the order of the players selected in that draft change? Since those articles are disappearing from the internets, I figured it was prime time to redo them with a fresh perspective. Next...
This is the Top 10 Phoenix Suns Draft Hits. Now what that means is the players on this list are players the Suns drafted or acquired on draft day and made a big impact or contribution in one way, shape or form to the franchise in the last 30 years.
So here we go with the #4 Hit on the list:
#4 Dan Majerle, drafted 1988 first round #14 overall
“Thunder” Dan Majerle...
When I was just a few paces younger—so, sixth grade—I was pitted into some gifted-and-or-talented smorgasbord compound with a bunch of other gifted-and-or-talented peers. Anticipating the opportunity to make friends and exchange the AIM handles I never knew, I walked into a vacant study hall room expecting to find whatever challenge ahead of me a breeze; walking to sixth-grade...
The complete 2014-2015 Indiana basketball schedule won’t be announced until the fall, but IU’s Big Ten opponents have already been confirmed as well as several non-conference contests. The latest non-conference to be confirmed as an opponent is Grand Canyon University, which is coached by former Phoenix Suns guard Dan Majerle. The Antelopes finished last season […]
When the Suns got together for the final time last week to clean out their lockers and reflect on a remarkable-but-not-quite-playoff-worthy season, first-year general manager Ryan McDonough was asked about the team's personnel plans for the near-term future.
With three first-round picks in the Suns' back pocket -- their own at No. 14, the Wizards' selection at No. 16 and the Pacers...

Former Suns player/assistant coach Dan Majerle was a guest on Doug and Wolf on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Monday; Where he would reminisce about his days as a player, and how he felt that they were just one piece short of being great, until the trade for Charles Barkley.

Before the Suns’ huge showdown against the Memphis Grizzlies, Suns forward P.J. Tucker was presented with the 2013-2014 Majerle Hustle Award at US Airways Center.
The award is presented to the Suns player that most displays the kind of hustle and heart that Suns legend Dan Majerle did in his playing days. Tucker also won the award last year, making him the...
We all know how this Suns franchise has had many spurts of greatness. The Suns definently carry the richest history of all the teams in the Valley, dating all the way back to the days of Dick Van Arsdale, Paul Silas, and Connie Hawkins. Who could ever forget names like “KJ” Kevin Johnson, Thom Chambers, and “Thunder” Dan Majerle. How could...

When taking your game into the ambitious atmosphere of the "next level," some balanced lifting is unavoidable.
But that's usually an individual, bodyweight-caliber maneuver.
Dan Majerle is taking on quite a bit more. In his first year as a head coach, the former Suns star is attempting to help boost an entire program from Division II to Division I in the NCAA clubhouse.
Lew Evans made a free throw with a second left to give Tulsa a 66-65 victory over Grand Canyon on Wednesday night in a coaching matchup of former Phoenix Suns teammates Danny Manning and Dan Majerle.
Rashad Smith led Tulsa (4-7), coached by Manning, with 15 points and nine rebounds. Shaquille Harrison also had 15 points, and James Woodard had 10 points and seven rebounds.
