The Orioles' Decade '00-'09 (8-6)

8) Daniel Cabrera's One-Hitter in NYC No man has generated more hair-pulling moments than one Daniel Cabrera. D-Cab was quite possibly the most maddening force of nature that put on a uniform in the last ten years. More likable than Sydney “Margaritaville” Ponson but more unstable than that adjustable rate mortgage you got four years ago Daniel generated more controversy...

Wishing Daniel Cabrera the Best...

I want to bring up the topic of Daniel Cabrera, our former Oriole, who was released by the Washington Nationals on Tuesday. Well, it looks like the same problems that led to his release from Baltimore got worse in Washington, and he never seemed to improve at all.I know the complaints of him in Baltimore -- being a ten cent head, a lack of control, never developed, the walks, etc...

Nationals Would Pounce On Cabrera?

According to the Washington Post, the Orioles could decided to not tender a contract to wild pitcher Daniel Cabrera, who could be looking at at least three million dollars despite a disappointing season. Cabrera is young and needs time to mature, so expect several teams competing for his services if he is released. The Nationals could move in on Cabrera keeping him close to his home...

Cabrera rocked in Reno debut

Newly signed pitcher Daniel Cabrera made his Reno Aces debut last night against the Albuquerque Isotopes, and let’s just say it didn’t go well. Cabrera allowed 4 hits and 6 runs while walking three in one inning of work in an 8-4 loss. Former ASU slugger Mitch Jones hit a grand slam off of Cabrera [...]

Daniel Cabrera is Mr. Mid-Atlantic

Just when you thought Daniel Cabrera’s arm had flamed out for good, the Washington Nationals have proven that a year on the wild side may be a good thing. The Nats have signed Cabrera to a one-year deal worth $2.6 million. Pending a physical, the Nats will get a right-hander who has led the American League [...]

How Bad Has Daniel Cabrera Been For the Orioles This Season?

Bad enough that the team doctor examined him yesterday to check for structural damage. Finding none, they tried to explain how any Major Leaguer could blow so hard without requiring an immediate backiotomy.

Maintaining Velocity

A few weeks ago I took a look at pitchers that saw significant changes in their average fastball velocity from '08 to their first few starts of '09. At the end of that post, I wondered how sustainable those velocity increases/decreases were going forward, and how much of it was just noise. As it turns out, those changes were quite sustainable. The regression below looked...

Did the Nationals get a gem in Daniel Cabrera?

The Nationals signed Daniel Cabrera yesterday to a one year, 2.6 million dollar deal where it seems that they beat out the Pirates and the Mets among others to get the big pitcher. How big is this signing? Well right now it seems pretty small. Living in Baltimore, I am very familiar with Cabrera's stuff. He is a big guy, really he's huge not only is he tall he has a big frame...

Is Jason Bergmann the New Ryan Church?

(by Jim Kurtzke) By sending Jason Bergmman down to AAA and keeping under-performing retreads such Julian Taverez and Daniel Cabrera, the Washington Nationals are sending fans a terrible message: performance doesn't matter.

About Last Night: Has D-Cab Turned the Corner & LaTroy Hawkins Is a Punk...

Well, we all know how the Orioles did last night -- very splendid! There's not much need to regurgitate what happened up in the Bronx, but there are a few questions I have in mind. One is Daniel Cabrera for real? I think he may have finally turned the corner after many years of struggles and unfulfilled promise. However, two good months does not underscore four years worth...

Don’t worry about this anymore

Cabrera, Should He Be Sent On His Way?

Is Daniel Cabrera just a few hours away from being an ex-Oriole? Over the past several years, despite his physical skills and "potential", the tall-righty has not gotten *it* together in umpteen major league seasons. Now, it may look like Daniel might be dealt, or at least non-tendered. Well, ...

What they're saying: DCab signs with Angels

If you've been reading Orioles Insider regularly, you already know that Daniel Cabrera has been signed by the Angels and assigned to their Double-A Arkansas club, but I thought you'd enjoy this humorous blog entry from Angels beat writer Bill Plunkett of my old paper, the Orange County Register. Here it is: The Angels have signed former big-league right-hander Daniel Cabrera...

Daniel Cabrera looking for a home...

I've heard people refer to Daniel Cabrera as the right handed Oliver Perez, a ton of talent that always teasing teams into believing he's on the verge of a break out only to disappoint with his wildness.Omar Minaya admitted last off-season he was keeping an eye on Cabrera's progress in winter ball. Between the D-Backs and the Nats, Cabrera went 0-6 with a 6.00ERA in 15...

Nationals DFA Cabrera

After starting the year 0-5 with a 5.85 ERA, the Nationals have designated Daniel Cabrera for assignment. Cabrera has a pretty good fastball, but cannot command his secondary pitches, which has lead to 35 walks to just 16 strike outs. Cabrera will be 28 tomorrow, and will likely find a job somewhere soon.I would think the Cardinals would be a good landing spot. Pitching coach Dave...

Nationals Sign Cabrera

The Nationals and pitcher Daniel Cabrera have reached an agreement on a one year deal, MLB.com is reporting. Cabrera, 27, was 8-10 with a 5.25 ERA for the Orioles last season, and was pursued by the Pirates and Mets as well. This is a great signing by the Nationals, who bring in a hard throwing pitcher who will not even have to leave his home in Baltimore to play with the Nationals...

So Daniel Cabrera Was Just That Bad?

It got so bad, most folks guessed that his arm had been demon possessed and required extensive medical treatment. And now we hear that there was nothing wrong at all, and that scar tissue is to blame for a pitcher who can't hit the broad side of the Chesapeake Bay.

As if things couldn't get worse for the Oriole's noodle-armed pitcher, Daniel Cabrera is likely to win the American League's pitching triple crown. You know, leading the league in allowed walks, hit batters, and wild pitches.

Video of Daniel Cabrera, the Red Sox & The Bench Clearing Incident...

Here's a video of the dust-up from last night between Daniel Cabrera and the Red Sox. I would not be surprised if he gets suspended, fined or both; however, what Cabrera did was beyond reason and his assumed absence will hurt a team with 3 rookies in the rotation along with Erik Bedard on the shelf. There was no need for retribution, as the balk that happened before the...

Daniel Cabrera pitched for the Nationals and Diamondbacks in 2009. He’s currently looking for work as a free agent. Daniel may not get a job, as his career continued to fall apart in 2009. Cabrera showed a lot of potential early, striking out 8.8 batters per nine innings in 2005 and 9.5 [...]
