Miami Dolphins: What kind of a player will Jordan Tripp be?

Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler both struggled during their first season with Miami Dolphins. The two linebackers were inconsistent in both run and pass coverage situations. In an attempt to upgrade the position, the Dolphins decided to draft Montana Grizzlies linebacker Jordan Tripp in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.Tripp was a two-time AP FCS All-American (2012-13) and...

The Dolphins will need more creative play calling in 2014

While the Miami Dolphins have plenty of talent on the team, there is plenty of room for improvement this year. Also, there is room for improvement on the coaching staff as well, seeing as that this team had more than enough talent to make the playoffs last year and squandered their chance by losing their last two games miserably. So what exactly are some of the areas that the Dolphins...

It’s Dolphins Draft Day! Some last minute thoughts…..

By Cyrus (@Cyruslassus on Twitter) The Miami Dolphins have the 19th pick in the draft, which could be a valuable pick should one of the top three quarterbacks slides, or another elite prospect, such as tight end Eric Ebron, wide receiver Mike Evans or linebacker CJ Mosley. To draft a play maker at 19, that is the question

The “obvious” thing for the Miami Dolphins to do in the 2014 NFL Draft would be to select an offensive lineman with two out of their first three picks.   This might be obvious, and might even be a good idea. This just isn’t the direction to go in.   Miami should instead strive to find playmakers in the draft, especially in the first three rounds. The draft is deep when it...

The Miami Dolphins seem to be comfortable with Ryan Tannehill as their franchise quarterback moving forward, but they are very interested in bringing in another talented young quarterback to push him. According to reports, the Dolphins are “very interested” in Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray, and have already visited with him. Miami is considering another meeting in the near...

Dolphins thinking about shaking up linebackers

The Dolphins spent a lot of money on free agent linebackers last year, and they appear to be set to shuffle some of those guys around. According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins are planning to move outside linebacker Koa Misi to the middle, replacing Dannell Ellerbe. Ellerbe would then move to the weakside, and Phillip Wheeler would play the strongside spot.

Ellerbe, Wheeler not sure things atop depth chart

BY SEAN DONOVANThe Miami Dolphins dished out big free agent contracts to Dannell Ellerbe and Philip Wheeler last offseason to upgrade their linebacker corps. That's what they thought they were doing, anyway. The duo turned out to be a disappointment on the whole in 2013, with linebacker play the primary culprit as Miami's once-mighty run defense slipped into mediocrity. According...

Vince Wilfork to the Dolphins?

By Cyrus (@Cyruslassus on Twitter) The only debate in a Vince Wilfork to Miami scenario is whether he has anything left in the tank. When the Dolphins traded up one spot in the 2004 draft to draft Vernon Carey and not Vince, I was livid, even more so after he ended up on the New England Patriots. Approximately $30 Million in cap space – What to do with it?

Going into the 2013 off-season, the Dolphins went on a spending spree due to their fantastic figure of nearly $40 million in cap space. These pickups included MVP-caliber receiver Mike Wallace along with Brent Grimes, Tyson Clabo, and linebacker duo Philip Wheeler and Dannell Ellerbe. This left approximately $17 million in leftover cap space going into the 2013-2014 season. This...

What went wrong with the Dolphins run defense in 2013?

One of the standard predictions by pundits and fans alike about the 2013 Miami Dolphins was the fact that teams would have a tough time running against their defense. Au contraire. The Dolphins defense, bolstering a revamped linebacking corps featuring Super Bowl hero Dannell Ellerbe, and 100 tackle man from a year ago Phillip Wheeler, the Dolphins defense ranked 24th against the...

Dolphins position coaching changes prove significant for 2014

While the Dolphins re-stocked their coaching shelves with Bill Lazor in place of Mike Sherman as offensive coordinator, one curious change was made for them with the moving on of linebackers coach George Edwards to the Minnesota Vikings.  Edwards served two stints in Miami with two separate coaching staffs and had experience coaching linebackers in a 3-4 defense, with the Bills...
