Amaro: “I always feel under the gun.”

General Manager Ruben Amaro addressed reporters today and there were a number of notable soundbites. As reported by Todd Zolecki, Amaro stated he is beginning to feel the heat of not delivering a winner and on missing on players like Delmon Young, Danys Baez, and Chad Qualls. From Zolecki: “I always feel under the gun,” Amaro said. “I put myself under the gun. I don’t listen...

Pluto: Discussing Internal Bullpen Options For The Second Half

In his weekly Sunday morning column, The Plain Dealer’s Terry Pluto talked about some options internally for the Indians troubled bullpen in the second half from both sides. The Indians are looking at Clay Rapada (1-0, 2.78) at Columbus as a possible reliever. He was 3-0 with a 2.82 ERA in the majors last season with the Yankees. He’s a side-arming lefty who has been effective...

Series Preview - Blue Jays

Phillies (31-34) v. Toronto Blue Jays (31-32)[How horrible is this logo? Thank goodness teams have abandoned the trend to make "flashy" and "edgy" logos. Teams (and marketing geniuses) have finally figured out what fans knew all along, simple, classic, classy are always better than new, hip and ugly.]Pitching Matchups:Friday, 7:07 - Vance Worley v. Papelbon is a Closer, Not Just a General Use Pitcher

Jonathan Papelbon sure takes this closer's gig seriously.  The man is more "lights out" than Lidge was in '08 when it's a save situation.  However, flip the script and the man becomes Danys Baez bad.Papelbon in save situations: 15 G, 15 IP, 14 K, 15 SV, 0.00 ERA, 0.60 WHIP.Papelbon in non-save situation: 9 G, 8.1 IP, 13 K, 2 L, 6.48 ERA, 1.56 WHIP.Other...

The Galvis Divide & Minor League Stuff

The Galvis Divide:Every season there seems to be a few players that WSBGMs take a hardline stance against and then take plenty of flak from blind Phillies fans, until of course we're proven right (Examples- David Bell, Adam Eaton, Michael Martinez, Danys Baez, No-Hit Nunez, Eric Bruntlett, Ryan Howard's contract, etc.). Anyway, that player this season already seems to be...

Top Moment #1: Nineteen Innings of Madness

Phillies Nation’s winner for the number one Philadelphia Phillies Top Moment of 2011 is … (drum roll, please) … The 19 inning marathon against the Cincinnati Reds! This may not come as a surprise.  We remember staying up late, refusing to turn off the television.  We remember it being one of the oddest games of recent memory. We remember Wilson Valdez taking the mound in the...

WSBGMs Hall of Fame Nominations 2012

It’s WSBGMs Hall of Fame time. As a reminder, here is how it works. Each year, Carson and I will nominate a few people (players, coaches, ballgirlz, etc.) that have had an impact on the blog. We'll put the nominations up for vote. If the person receives a certain percentage of the vote (which we will arbitrarily change every year to suit our needs), then he/she will be officially...

Danys Baez Released as Phillies Continue to Move Forward

Yesterday at exactly 4:00 PM eastern standard time, the MLB ended team's ability to make non-waiver trades.  However, just because the trade deadline had come and go, didn't mean that they would stop their effort to move players around in order to create a more perfect, championship ready team.  They would move froward today by moving backwards, releasing relief pitcher...
